Greetings. Started this article inspired by Izak and dedicated to my father. (The original version began at Postage stamps and postal history of Israel and Palestine and this version conforms to WikiProject Philately conventions.) Please feel free to pitch in. Thanks. Format

We know where this started but because this is an article about Israel and its stamps then, let's try to focus on that and try not overwhelm it with unnecessary Palestinian data and links; those belong on the Palestine article. I have started to reformat the refs correctly but both the bibliographic and external links sections are a mess and should follow the guidelines per WP:REF. Some of the inline links go to non-English sites. References should be found for the English language pages at Israel Post that don't go there, but to the Israeli pages. Israel Philatelic Federation weblinks

All the links to the Israel Philatelic Federation website still link to Israeli pages but they need to be linked to the English pages where they exist, if not please say so, because when I look at the website I see an English link at the top of the page, so I expect these pages exist in English too. Gee, that's odd. I guess the English version doesn't have a unique url (or something). So, there is an English version of all these pages, but when I copy the link and re-use it, I get only the Hebrew version. Sorry, I don't supposed we can give the reader instructions? I don't know what the problem is, but, having tried 3 different browsers I keep getting a database error "[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]SQL Server does not exist or access denied." If we cannot give a proper working link we should not use it. Wait a day or so and see if it clears up, otherwise try to find some other sources for those statements. All the inline citations are done except for the IPF links which still don't work as expected. If you know it, you might fill in some occasional data I could not find. I will try to do the books tomorrow. ww2censor (talk) 06:03, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

Great, thanks. I redid footnote #4 in detail. Can you at least read the 2 IPF articles? They give most of the info, except don't mention the booklets. Still haven't figured out how to differentiate the English and Hebrew versions of that webpage. (Maybe find somebody computer savvy w/firefox?) Let me know if fn 4 is better, thanks. Non-denom stamps

Non-denominated stamps. Issued in 1982 "Olive Branch" and 1984 (Also olive branch: "Cross-gutter 'heart' of sheet" and tete-beche versions). This is one of the urls. Footnote this? HG | Talk 09:17, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

Improvements

This article would benefit from:

• better bibliography, links to substantive histories
• more info on interesting developments/anecdotes in postal history
• balanced reporting of intersection of Israeli and PNA systems
• stub for Akiva Aryeh Weiss, now redlinked, who has a Hebrew FA (he:עקיבא אריה ויס)

Zamenhof stamp

I think it's worth at least a small note - the Zamenhof stamp which had text from the Esperanto Wikipdeia on it, released in Israel. It would be an interesting DYK-type thing. -- Ynhockey ^(Talk) 03:05, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

That's fascinating, is there a source explaining the WP connection? Seems like it's more notable for a Wikipedia-related article than Israel, but you are welcome to add it. And add image to commons? thanks muchly, HG | Talk 03:46, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

BTW, I found a source but it's the IPF site. See if this url works: article on Esperanto stamp which states: "Description of the stamp// An image of Zamenhof is designed in a text describing his life, reproduced from the Wikipedia article in Esperanto. The corner of the tab shows the flag of the Esperanto movement (green, symbolizing hope in the European tradition, with a five-pointed star representing the five continents). festival series

I'm curious--or maybe just confused--about the statements in Holiday_stamp#Rosh_Hashanah and this article, regarding the "festival series". Those statements seem to say that those stamps are specifically to commemorate Rosh Hashanah. Do the stamps in those series also commemorate other festivals? --Rich Janis (talk) 09:22, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Joint issues

In the Joint issues section, can someone clarify the phrase, "as pictured in the souvenir leaf"? To me, a non-philatelist, this isn't clear.

The "Joint issue" article lists, at Joint_issue#Israel, a 1993 stamp issued with Poland, which isn't listed here. Perhaps someone who knows the subject could get both of these articles to agree on that list.

Better than better; and I agree with you completely. A list of only 2 or 3 examples, especially with a link to the Joint_issue#Israel section, might be just as good. That short a list, though, probably would look better as a single paragraph in the "Postage stamps" section, instead of its own section. It was seeing a list of all but one--and that one being the first--of the joint issues, that led me to wonder if one of the two articles was in error. Relevance of external links

Are these three links really relevant to Postage stamps and postal history of Israel?

• Oriental Philatelic Association of London (OPAL)

I'm a member myself. Covers the Middle East, mainly successor states to the Ottoman Empire, but not Israel. Havn't specifically checked the magazine index on their website but I don't recall any Israel topic in the magazine recently.

• Palestine Philatelic Society (PPS)

covers Mandate, PNA, propaganda, etc; (BTW: the site's pages were off-line every time I checked)

• Palestine stamp and coin FAQs

Political propganda site, operated by The American Zionist Organization, no relevance whatsoever, even the content on this specific page has very little philatelic relevance indeed.
