Photography edit

The article states that photography is banned on the platforms. Firstly, and directly related to Wikipedia: are we therefore sure that the photo used for this article was obtained with permission? Secondly, why is it banned? Even "underground-style" stations in the UK (eg Liverpool Central don't ban photography entirely, so long as flash is not used. 86.136.249.84 23:16, 18 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Escalators edit

Someone should try to 'count' the number of steps by timing the trip and calculating the nuber of steps per minute. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 211.28.129.41 (talk) 00:25, 23 April 2007 (UTC).Reply

The escalators from concourse level to platforms 1 & 2 have about 105 (Lonsdale St)and 110 (Bourke St)exposed 'steps'. A drop of about 19.5m. The longest ones at Melbourne Central have 81.

Needs a section on exits edit

There are two exits, and it'd be nice if we could describe them easily to out of towners...

Elevator? edit

This article should state very clearly exactly *where* the elevator is located, so that those with reduced access can easily find it. In fact, each station's Wikipedia page should state this, it need only be one sentence in the article, but would probably be the most informative part of the article.

Even the Metro Trains and PTV websites fail to clearly state where the elevators are located - it's *very* frustrating! 49.183.153.169 (talk) 21:02, 18 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

should the buses on lonsdale street be mentioned edit

Slightly north of Parliament station is Lonsdale street which has a bus stop with multiple bus routes at the intersection with spring street. Additionally the station concourse provides clear signage to Lonsdale street. However I am not sure whether they should be mentioned in the transport connections section or not. NotOrrio (talk) 11:16, 8 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

if there is no conseus I will ask the GA-reviewer about this once this is nominated NotOrrio (talk) 23:55, 9 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
i have ultimately decided not to include them as the bus stop is 650m from the station NotOrrio (talk) 09:36, 11 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Communication edit

Does "Parliament station" need to be changed to "Parliament Station"? The person who loves reading (talk) 04:06, 11 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

"Parliament station" should remain as such as the station name is usually just shortened to "Parliament" additionally it maintains consistency with other Melbourne train station articles. NotOrrio (talk) 04:21, 11 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Lead & Infobox edit

  • The station is fully accessible - What does this mean? How can a station not be accessible?
    •  N You've changed "accessible" to "fully compliant with DDA guidelines". However, this is still stating the obvious and isn't suitable for the lead. I doubt there are many stations in Australia that aren't compliant with DDA guidelines. — Golden talk
  • In 1971, the Melbourne Underground Rail Loop Authority was formed. During this time, three new underground stations, including Parliament, were said to be built. - This is irrelevant for the lead. I suggest you remove it.
  • Parliament station opened in 1983, and the station was named - Suggest changing this to "Parliament station opened in 1983, and it was named" to avoid three "station"s in one sentence.
    •  N The sentences work better as merged as I've suggested above. — Golden talk
  • During the station's construction, the platforms were built through tunneling. - Suggest changing this to "Platforms of the station were built through tunneling." to avoid three "the station"s in one sentence.
    •  N You haven't addressed my main concern here. — Golden talk
  • Wikilink Southern Hemisphere.
  • it was the longest escalator -> "it had the longest escalator"
  • The journey to Flinders Street railway station is approximately 4.2 kilometres (2.6 mi) and takes 7 minutes by train. - Why is this relevant to Parliament station?
  • Victoria 3000 - What does 3000 refer to? Is it the address? Also, I don't think it's necessary to list Victoria and Australia after Melbourne. Instead, you could write Melbourne, Australia

Description edit

  • The station is approximately 4.3 kilometres (2.7 mi), or around a 7-minute train journey, from Flinders Street. - Why is Flinders Street important enough to mention its proximity to Parliament Station? Why aren't other streets/stations mentioned instead?
  • Parliament station currently - Suggest changing this to "The station currently" to avoid having three consecutive paragraphs that begin with "Parliament [railway] station".
    •  N The issue has been mostly addressed, but could you also address the use of the word "currently" (See: MOS:CURRENTLY) in this sentence. — Golden talk
  • The station is fully accessible as there are lifts linking the concourse with both the platforms and street level. - Again, aren't all stations fully accessible? The way it's currently written, it seems like Parliament Station is unique in this regard.
    •  N Remove "fully" since it's unnecessary. — Golden talk
  • You've included a wikilink to Spring Street twice in this section.

History edit

  • responsible in the construction -> "responsible for the construction"
  • Melbourne Underground Rail Loop Authority (MURLA) was formed in 1971 to oversee the construction of the brand-new City Loop. The plan included the construction of three underground stations including Parliament station. - You can change the sentence structure here to shift the focus onto Parliament station: "Parliament station was one of three underground stations included in the construction plan of the new City Loop, overseen by the Melbourne Underground Rail Loop Authority (MURLA) formed in 1971".
  • Wikilink Southern Hemisphere.
  • but it has since been surpassed - Do we know when it was surpassed?
  • The Frankston line, however, will return to the City Loop in 2025, once the Metro Tunnel is opened. - We can't predict the future. I suggest adding "planned to" or something similar, as well as specifying who is planning to do this. The sentence could look something like this: "The Frankston line, however, is planned by [insert name] to return to the City Loop in 2025, once the Metro Tunnel is opened."
  • In 31 January 2021 -> "On 31 January 2021"
  • In 2022 and early 2023 works had begun to upgrade safety features at the three city loop stations. In 2022, work had been completed for the first stage which was the installment of a new intruder alarm system. - Does this include Parliament Station? If so, no changes are needed.
  • On 6 February 2023, early works commenced for stage 2 at Parliament station and are expected to be complete by late 2023. - Expected by whom?

Platforms and services edit

  • Parliament station is currently served by 11 lines - Replace "currently" with something else per MOS:CURRENTLY.
  • You've already included a wikilink to Metro Trains Melbourne earlier in the article body, so a second link is unnecessary.
  • Services clockwise through the City Loop, first stopping at Jolimont and then travelling together until Clifton Hill where the line splits into two. - A word is missing in this sentence.
  • From 2025 onwards, the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines would be removed from the City Loop and will instead be rerouted through the Metro Tunnel. As a result services on the Frankston line will serve the loop instead. - Same as previous points. "Planned to"/"Expected to" etc. and clarify by whom.
  • From 2025 onwards, the Sunbury line would be removed from the City Loop and will instead be rerouted through the Metro Tunnel - Same as above.
  • As a result services -> "As a result, services"
  • Remove links to City Loop in this section as you've already included a wikilink to it earlier in the article body.

Transport links edit

  • Remove link to Spring Street in this section as you've already included a wikilink to it earlier in the article body.

References edit

  • Spot checked references #5, 10, 12, 15, 16, 18, 29.
  • Specify pages for ref #1
  • I was unable to verify ref #5. Could you provide the exact quote?
  • I couldn't find any information about Flinders Street or Parliament Stations in ref #10.
  • Link in ref #11 is broken.
    •  N The website does not mention the Parliament station. — Golden talk
  • I was unable to verify ref #12. The website doesn't mention VicTrack or state that the station is operated by Metro Trains Melbourne, although it can be assumed since it's their website.
  • I could not access ref #14.
  • I could not find any information about the year 2025 in ref #16.

New issues edit

  • Remove the second wikilink to "Victoria State Government" in the Platforms and services section.
  • Please ensure consistency in your reference style by using citation templates for PDF sources, such as ref #1.

General comments edit

  • I was unable to verify almost every reference I spot-checked. I won't be quick-failing the article yet, as I hope that this can be fixed. Please go through the sources again, add page numbers where possible, fix broken links, add archive links for dead URLs, etc.
  • Earwig's detector doesn't show any copyright violations.
  • Images are free, appropriately tagged and relevant. — Golden talk 20:06, 13 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

gone ahead and checked the sources everything other than the older sources (which were already archived) and the ptv sources were working properly, redid the ptv sources as well NotOrrio (talk) 09:59, 14 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
    Some things to clarify:
-3000 is the post code for Melbourne's CBD
-Flinders Street station is the main metropolitan train station in Melbourne this was also something I got inspiration from another user (see: User:HoHo3143/Improving Melbourne train station articles) who himself has gotten several train station articles to GA articles using this layout
-Sources (10,11) are ment to source the timetables for both the pakenham and sunbury lines to get an estimated travel time between parliament and flinders street although i have used the route link for both as the timetable link often breaks and leads the user back to the ptv homepage NotOrrio (talk) 10:59, 14 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@NotOrrio: Please note that I will keep this review open until August 28th (two weeks from my review) to allow you time to address all of my points above. I would ask that you please respond to each point individually, rather than collectively, to make it easier for me to follow when reviewing your changes. Cheers. — Golden talk 15:46, 17 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
gone ahead and readdressed everything individually found a few extra errors and fixed them alongside that all sources should be working fine as they checked them one by one, finally I replaced sources 10 and 11 (the timetable sources) with the timetable website instead of the route website as that was what i was originally trying to source NotOrrio (talk) 10:22, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Also I have noticed that you have addressed a few of my comments here are the ones that haven't been crossed off so far
    • Sources (10,11) are ment to source the timetables for both the pakenham and sunbury lines to get an estimated travel time between parliament and flinders street although i have used the route link for both as the timetable link often breaks and leads the user back to the ptv homepage

@NotOrrio: I've marked the issues above that still need to be addressed. I've also added two new issues in the "New Issues" section above that need to be addressed. — Golden talk 13:22, 22 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
source 11 is a timetable source ment to additionally source the time it takes between parliament and flinders street as the nothern tunnel is oriented differently to the other three tunnels. This source shows parliament on the left end of the screen NotOrrio (talk) 22:49, 22 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Comment: Actually not all stations on the Melbourne metropolitan network are fully accesible, Heyington station has no step free access and many of the stations that do are still not fully accesible as the ramp is too steep-https://www.metrotrains.com.au/station-accessibility-features/ shows this NotOrrio (talk) 22:46, 22 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
last comment: i've added another source ontop of ref 16 to verify that the metro tunnel is expected to open in 2025 NotOrrio (talk) 22:51, 22 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@NotOrrio: You have not addressed the second and third issues in the Lead section, nor have you addressed both issues in the Description section. Additionally, the problem with ref #11 remains unresolved. Ref #11 is not a timetable source; it is a link to "Our Role" page on VicTrack's website [1], which does not mention Parliament station. This leaves this statement Parliament station is owned by VicTrack without a source. — Golden talk 18:10, 23 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Although source 11 does not specifically state parliament station it does state the following "VicTrack owns Victoria’s rail land, buildings and infrastructure" the lead already mentions that parliament is a station in victoria NotOrrio (talk) 23:49, 23 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
although i have gone ahead and fixed the other problems NotOrrio (talk) 23:55, 23 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I suppose I can accept that. Thank you for the changes. The article has passed. Congratulations! — Golden talk 14:23, 24 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
