I don't know who wrote the section about the monument, but you have totally misinterpreted what the plaques say. The monument is not of 1689 and is not "baroque". The monument was re-erected in 1689, having fallen into a state of disrepair. The tomb chest is attributed to Nicholas Johnston and dates from c.1610. It was repaired again in 1899 (see side panel on tomb).
