2007-08 Merritt Centennials Season article edit

Does anyone know why this and the 2008-09 Season articles were deleted? Merrittcentennials (talk) 19:33, 23 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Although I didn't do it. Very simple. Lacks notability. Not even CHL teams are notable enough for their own season pages, let alone a tier II team. The only teams that get that treatment are NHL teams. Same with the 2007-08 BCHL Season page and the 2008 Fred Page Cup Playoffs page... they will probably eventually get deleted due to lack of notability.
Now, if you want a great place to put them where a lot of hockey people do frequent... go to http://icehockey.wikia.com/ ... it is made for this kind of stuff. I should know, I am an admin there. DMighton (talk) 20:30, 23 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
DMighton is right, this level of team is not high enough to get that level or treatment. The league itself could probably have a page, but not the individual teams. The NHL is the only level in North America that get that sort of treatment. -Djsasso (talk) 21:08, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Amazing edit

This article is simply amazing. The individual(s) involved at maintaining and expanding this article deserve a big pat on the back. Great work! — Hucz (talk) 03:32, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Hucz, I appreciate that. My goal is featured article one day! Merrittcentennials (talk) 04:07, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
You could consider bringing some of the other BCHL articles up to par... just an idea... DMighton (talk) 04:37, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Would that affect whether or not this would ever receive feature article status? 66.183.238.195 (talk) 01:31, 10 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
To a degree, yes. All of those links (that are pertanent) on that article should link to informative articles that are related to the main article (the Cents article)... to have a poor BCHL article... or have the other team pages not fall in line to some degree might create a question as to its notability as a featured article. Sadly, I would say a lot of the articles in Tier II are under-developed.... so yes, it may effect it. Basically... all the BCHL teams articles should have a similar team template to the Centennials article... and some history... all of them have stats already... but I doubt they are very accurate... I have little knowledge of the BCHL and played it by guess... Like... I guessed team moves... I know a few are probably dead wrong... it needs some work.
You can find all BCHL standings here: http://icehockey.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_BCHL_Seasons
Sadly, BC hockey has had very poor coverage on wikipedia... I've only ran into a couple people who have interest in it... it needs help from people who know something about it and have a desire for it. DMighton (talk) 02:34, 10 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

COI tag edit

A large amount of edits were done here by Merrittcentennials (talk · contribs), which may raise WP:COI issues--hence the COI tag. Blueboy96 02:24, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for following up on my request to explain the COI. To be honest, it seems to be a very straight forward and well written sports article. The guy seems to be a fan and I doubt he works for or owns the organization. Probably a good idea to change his user name... but... I think it would have been easier to just ask him instead of the block. Muh... either way. I am going to put in a request at Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey for someone to review the article for POV related content. DMighton (talk) 02:29, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
That was why I softblocked him so he can change his username and keep his edit history. As it was, the fact his username matched that of the team created the appearance of a promotional account. Blueboy96 02:36, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Oh, for sure. I am actually kinda hoping he puts the effort he did in that article to the rest of the correlating articles... because he's built that one up nice. DMighton (talk) 02:40, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Based on the images alone, especially the team photo, I suspect this user is a representative of the Centennials organization. If he is not, then I have serious concerns about this editors ownership of the copyright, and ability to release the images into the public domain. That said, I read the first couple paragraphs closely, and skimmed the rest, and overall, I believe the article seems fair. Even if the user has a COI, they have done well to maintain a balanced approach. My real concern right now is that the tone of the article is not really encyclopedic at present. Phrases like "The 1975-76 season will also go down in Cents history", "took a bit of a tumble", " stayed out of the basement", etc. Good for a team history section of a website, but not quite encyclopedic. Overlinking is also a problem, and many of the BCHL record book references should be combined. Some things to consider for the editor should they return and aim for FA status. There is a good base to start from. Resolute 04:55, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
