Talk:Mehadrin bus lines

Which lines? edit

It would certainly be useful to include an enumeration of the mehadrin lines in the article, for Haredi riders to choose from and for Non-Haredi riders to avoid (or to ride on purpose for reasons of activism). (I'm not taking sides)

With just over 50 lines, the enumeration does not have to be in list form, but rather as a paragraph with #'s seperated by commas. I was all ready to do it, but I could not find a list? I only found some individual lines from news articles, mostly dealing with violence and verbal abuse. Googling got me the following:

Connex Intercity 322, Dan Intercity 292, Egged Ashdod 85, Egged Jerusalem 2, 40, 56, Egged Intercity 319, 350, 402, 418, 426, 450, 451, 492, 494, 972, 982, Illit all lines.

I'm not even sure about some of the numbers. A few of the bus lines may have been changed. Can anyone find a complete, up-to-date list? --@Efrat (talk) 06:04, 17 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

OK, I found this from the Israel Ministry of Transport website: [1]. It is dated Oct. 2009. It contains 2 lists. There is a slight discrepency between the lists. One list was pulished by the (Haredi) Rabbinical Committee (on transport) and the other was published by the Israel Ministry of Transport. The specific dates of the 2 lists is unclear.
Connex 322, Dan 402, Egged Ashdod 85, Egged Jerusalem 3, 10 15a, 40, 49a, 56, Egged intercity (292), 319, (322), 350, (351), 402, 407, (417), (418), 426, 450, 451, 454, 490, 491, 492, 494, 497, 498, 550, 552, 554, 951, 952, 969, 970, 972, 973, 980, 982, 984, 996, 997, 998, (999), Egged Taavura (79), (251), 277, (279), 280, Illit all lines, Metropoline 358, 458, Superbus (11), 230, (330)
Numbers in parentheses do not match between the two lists. --@Efrat (talk) 09:11, 17 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
Obviously, you have not read the article. The so called “mehadrin” buses have been outlawed by court order in January 2011, so please, don't even think of putting any lists of illegally gender segregating buses into the article, particularly Egged operated ones, without proof, that they actually are violating the law. Thanks, Ajnem (talk) 08:29, 19 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
Against the law? Yeah, but with some wiggle room. While bus company's cannot mandate gender segregation (against the law), the ruling allowed people to gender segregate on a voluntary basis (permissible) (the so-called 1-year experiment beginning 2011-01-06). Signs are posted on many buses to make people aware of this 'voluntary' arrangement and bus drivers must say that it is voluntary. Lists (as mentioned above) are published by both private and governmental bodies (though they are very hard to find without hours of googling!).
Just because something is illegal, doesn't disqualify it for mention in the article. I'll leave it to you and/or others to decide whether this useful information is worth putting into the artice under the heading "Voluntarily Gender-Segregated Bus Lines" with accompanying explanation as to the legal ramifications and the ruling regarding the 1-year experiment. In the meantime, I assume that you will leave the list here on the Talk Page. I personally would want to avoid these lines and therefore find it useful when planning a trip. Others, on the other hand, may wish to purposefully patronize these lines. --@Efrat (talk) 10:08, 19 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
