Content in articles about living people are required to be sourced edit

The continued removal of the {:refimprove} tag without providing sources for the many many many unsourced statements in this article about a living person is vandalism. Surname Pronunciation edit

This article says that his name is pronounced "me-lan-son" and I have heard announcers pronounce it this way. But as a "Melanson" person, sorry to say, that is wrong. His name is spelled and should sound "me-lan-con". I am interested in Mark's lineage and curious it he connects back to Acadian/Cajans. Additional note, there is a great number of Melanson in western Nova Scotia and there is even a Mark Melanson Road in the community of Little Brook... though not a relation of this Melancon. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.166.4.1 (talk) 13:09, 4 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

This is the kind of thing we can look into. For the pronunciation, all I can say is that having watched games where he's pitched, announcers pronounce his name with a soft "c", as the article currently says. It's part of their job description to get the pronunciation right (Michael Kay made a big deal about pronouncing Avisail Garcia's name correctly during the Yankees broadcast last night). With some searching, we can probably find sources on his lineage and name pronunciation. – Muboshgu (talk) 14:15, 4 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Melançon is a French name, in which the "c" is pronounced like an "s" (hence the cedilla). I would presume that is the origin of his surname, and that the cedilla was simply dropped at some point. 108.254.160.23 (talk) 01:19, 7 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
