2007-08 Bundesliga season edit

The article states "He was one of only three Bundesliga players to play every minute in the 2007–08 season". I followed the link to 2007–08 Fußball-Bundesliga, but there was no mention of this fact. So, it needs a reference (and a mention of who the other two players are). Coyets (talk) 09:02, 3 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Neuer confirms that he wants to move to FC Bayern edit

He confirmed that he will move to a German club. [1] 91.20.92.214 (talk) 23:47, 30 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a sports magazine. Wikipedia deals with facts, not with speculations. Do we have proof that he will move to Bayern Munich? No ("probable" is quite different from "100% sure"). Do we have at least proof that he will leave Schalke? No. After all, his contract runs until 2012. If such a move is confirmed, then it can be added to the article. Until then, it's just speculation. --Jaellee (talk) 10:17, 1 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Manuel Neuer has signed a 5-year contract with Bayern Munich. Can we change his club information? It was confirmed on both clubs websites. (http://www.fcbayern.telekom.de/en/news/news/2011/29734.php)

Histroy of goalkeeper should be seperate from other player edit

the goalkeeper history record should not have goals scored column .... rather it should have goal scored against and clean-sheet records this would give better understanding of the goalkeepers abilities — Preceding unsigned comment added by Monish.mhatre (talkcontribs) 14:01, 29 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Quck fail criteria

GA review (see here for what the criteria are, and here for what they are not)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
a (prose):   b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (reference section):   b (citations to reliable sources):   c (OR):

    Fair representation without bias:
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
  6. It is illustrated by images and other media, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free content have fair use rationales):   b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:
1a Prose
  • Needs a good copyedit here. Examples of poor prose in the first section "Schalke 04":
    • "Neuer signed professional terms in 2005 after progressing through every age group at his hometown club." - Sentence is backwards really (should be childhood team, then pro). Signed professional terms with which club? Which club was his hometown club? Was his hometown club the same one he signed with professionally?
    • "he came on to substitute the injured Frank Rost" – should be substitute for.
    • "crunch clash"
    • "he announced that he will not be extending his contract with Schalke" - why is this still in present tense when it occurred more than 2 years ago?
    • "He earned criticism by Schalke-fans". Should be "from" not by, no hyphen between Schalke and fans, and is "earned" really the most appropriate word here?
  • I've only listed the first sectionexamples here, but the entire article really should be copyedited as the poor prose continues the whole way through.
  • Note, tv shows and movies should be italicised.
1B MOS compliance
  • Fails WP:LEDE. Needs to be expanded.
2a References
  • Last two pargraphs of Bayern Munich section unreferenced.
  • Direct quotes need sources (ie "sensational" in Euro 2012 section).
  • Euro 2012 and Honors sections needs more references.
  • Dead links need to be sorted.
2b Reliable sources
  • What makea inside World Soccer a reliable source?
  • Ditto: ghanaweb, transfermarkt.de, DFB.de, kicker.de, welt.de, reviersport.de, Online.de.
  • Is manuel-neuer.com his official website or a fansite? If the latter, it is not a reliable source and should be removed.
3a Broad
  • The sections are all rather sparse. Some more information should be added just to expand it out a little and improve the overall flow of the article.
  • "In November 2011, Neuer won €500,000 for his foundation" - what foundation? This is the first and only mention of it in the article. More information please.
4 Neutrality
  • "He did not disappoint"
  • "heroics"
  • "The game featured great play from both keepers"
  • "he was especially praised for his "sensational" performance."
  • "like many other notable footballers, such as Mesut Özil."
5 Images
  • Copyright info and captions are good. While not a requirement for GA, I recommend adding alt text.
  • While there is a lot to be done, with a concerted effort I feel the article can attain GA status.
  • I am placing this article on hold for seven days to allow you to fix the problems listed. If the work is completed before then, I will pass the article before the seven days are up. If no attempts are made to correct the problems, I will fail the article in seven days. If you are not finished within the seven days, I have no problem in extending the hold period to allow you to finish, as long as I see work is being carried out on the article.
  • To make it easier for me to see how much work has been done, please either strike each comment when the problem has been fixed or post a note underneath each item saying it is completed.
  • Feel free request to clarification on anything; you can leave comments on my talk page or here, as I have this page watchlisted.

  • Unfortunately I am failing this article. No improvements have been carried out since the review 7 days ago, and as such the article does not meet the WP:GA criteria. NiciVampireHeart 20:25, 23 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

LGBT rights activist? edit

Hi, he's categorized as such on the Spanish Wikipedia, should we add that category here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 181.27.168.235 (talk) 20:53, 29 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Contentious & Undocumented edit

These two words suits a part of the lead of this article very well. The part i am referring to is the following:

"He is widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers in the history of the sport, and by some as the greatest ever."

Why contentious?

All of us are familiar with the heat surrounding *The G.O.A.T.* debates. As for me, i only consider the opinion of those who are the legendary figures of the corresponding business. Because the opinions of others are vulnerable to "recency bias". The judges and the case remains the same but the involved parties change as the decades pass. And that's why i chose to call it contentious.

But the reason why i want it to be removed is...

Because it's undocumented

I was astonished, upon carefully checking every reference successively, by the fact that the string of citations that are meant to support the argument are nothing but a sham (fraud). Only 2 (15 and 17) out of the 24 citations are valid. And even those two are basically the same citations as they both refer to Jamie Redknapp's (who is one of the more infamous pundits in football) verdict that he is the greatest. All others do not hint, even slightly, in favour of the part (out of which 3 or 4 are blank). Citation no. 28 is laughable because it is nothing but 10 or 20 tweets from random unknown persons.

Conclusion

So basically a contentious material, herein, is backed by only 1 citation that further cites an individual's thoughts which, in no shape or form, represents "some". Such a contentious statement needs to be backed by atleast 15 citations (and not the ones like citation no. 28) as done in Gianluigi Buffon.

Suggested measure

The aforesaid part be removed from the article.

LGBT rights activist (2021) it was already briefly discussed edit

2021-2022 Season edit

I noticed there isn't anything on the current season yet. Neuer reached 300 wins for Bayern in the 4-0 win against Hoffenheim[1]. Is MSN an appropriate source for this, or should I find something else? Perfect4th (talk) 17:41, 25 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

In my opinion that source is okay. --Jaellee (talk) 20:03, 25 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I went ahead and added the information. I extended the time frame for the section "2020-22: The Sextuple and new records" to cover this season, but maybe saying "present" instead of "22" would work better here? Perfect4th (talk) 21:02, 25 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure. 2020–22 looked like a typo to me at first glance since I expected 2020–21 I don't know if "present" would be better. --Jaellee (talk) 22:34, 25 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
I checked a couple other footballers' pages and both "present" and "22" are used, but "22" seems more common. I'll leave it as is for now. Perfect4th (talk) 17:26, 26 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Outcomes of international tournaments edit

The only sections in the International Career section that contain the outcomes of international tournaments are the 2014 and 2018 World Cups; Euro 2012 only describes the group stage, and Euro 2020 doesn't contain much information about Germany's tournament games at all. Should Neuer's page mention how far Germany got, or should it only mention the matches most relevant to Neuer? Perfect4th (talk) 20:32, 31 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Homophobic chants by Mexican fans edit

The way the article describes the situation of the misunderstanding of Neuer’s sexuality makes it seem as if the Mexican fans were shouting homophobic chants to him because they were informed about the rumors. Mexican fans, as they have been doing for a while, shout the word “puto” to every opposing goalkeeper in practically all of the tournaments Mexico plays in, regardless of their knowledge about the player’s sexuality. 195.37.30.68 (talk) 01:53, 3 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
