Lehi edit

The Lehi party is missing

It's not missing because it wasn't a party. Its political arm, the Fighters' List, is included. Number 57 20:29, 26 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Klaliim edit

party platforms? edit

This article should include some brief explanation of each party's policy positions (particularly for those in the current Knesset) for readers unfamiliar with them. Just a list of names tell the reader nothing. -- Kendrick7talk 20:07, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

National Bolshevik Party of Israel edit

Why did you remove the link to the article about the National Bolshevik Party of Israel??? --41.242.141.243 09:22, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

The article was deleted after a discussion on its lack of notability. Number 57 15:41, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
And not just notability, but the simple fact that this "party" never actually existed. A group of teenagers in red t-shirts is not a party. --Amir E. Aharoni 09:46, 24 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Bead Artseinu edit

You also removed the article about Bead Artseinu. Why? --41.242.141.243 15:22, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

This article was also deleted after being prodded due to lack of notability. Number 57 15:41, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Colors edit

Just for information - the color scheme works as follows -

  • Right Wing - Blue,
  • Left - Red,
  • Centre - Yellow,
  • Rel. Jewish - Brown,
  • Arab-Pink/Orange,
  • Other-Green

Any suggestions for development/change is welcome. Flymeoutofhere (talk) 16:38, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

No offence, but I think it looks hideous. These aren't even necessarily the colours associated with the parties. I have reverted as such. пﮟოьεԻ 57 18:46, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
OK - I didnt think it looked great - but wanted some help in making it better. The US version of this article, for example, includes colors and I think if done right, it will be very effective. Flymeoutofhere (talk) 19:14, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
It can be ok, but only where there are only two or at most three colours. When there are too many colours it can look garish (plus several parties have the same colour, e.g. Labour and Hadash), so unfortunately this means it can't be applied to most articles on ministers, as so many different parties have held the post. пﮟოьεԻ 57 19:21, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
How about putting in the colors for the main three parties - and then doing the rest by right wing/left wing etc? Flymeoutofhere (talk) 20:01, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'd rather not TBH; in some cases it's difficult to say whether a party is left-wing or right wing (e.g. Shas or Gil these days), and it might be considered WP:OR to define them ourselves. пﮟოьεԻ 57 20:09, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
How about for the three main parties? Flymeoutofhere (talk) 21:28, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I don't think it would really add much, and would look a little strange if only some rows had colouring. пﮟოьεԻ 57 21:53, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Seat distrbution edit

There are supposed to be 120 seats, but the section showing the number of seats per party sums to 121. Can someone fix that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pauklzorz (talkcontribs) 13:20, 27 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

tsomet -- never in the Knesseth? edit

tsomet is listed as a party that never was in the knesseth. 1988 and 1992 they made it into the knesseth. 178.5.92.131 (talk) 11:42, 20 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

They are in that section because they do not currently have any Knesset seats. Does the party still actually exist in any form? Number 57 11:48, 20 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
okay. but they should be in the list of "Former Parties" as well. Right?178.5.227.193 (talk) 12:35, 10 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
If they still exist, then they shouldn't be in the "former parties" section. I don't know if they still exist or not though. However, I have added a note about them previously holding seats. Number 57 12:54, 10 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Political ideology column & bar edit

I've added a "Political ideology" column and a bar below the table to quickly visualize the country's political leanings, but it was quickly deleted by User:Number 57 with the following edit summary: "rv overly simplistic description of parties; some parties have both right and left wing policies depending on the sphere, and agreement cannot even be reached on the individual articles".

While I agree it may be "overly simplistic", that's the point, to give the reader a rough idea of the country's current political preferences.

What does everyone think? Is this a good idea? What would you change? Thanks. Pristino (talk) 14:42, 5 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

The following parties are represented following the 2013 elections:

Party Leader Seats Ideology
Likud Binyamin Netanyahu 20 Center-right
Yesh Atid Yair Lapid 19 Centrist
Labor Party Isaac Herzog 15 Center-left
The Jewish Home Naftali Bennett 12 Right
Shas Aryeh Deri 11 Centrist
Yisrael Beiteinu Avigdor Lieberman 11 Right
United Torah Judaism Yaakov Litzman 7
Hatnuah Tzipi Livni 6 Center-left
Meretz Zahava Gal-On 6 Center-left
United Arab List-Ta'al Ibrahim Sarsur 4
Hadash Mohammad Barakeh 4 Left
Balad Jamal Zahalka 3 Center-left
Kadima Shaul Mofaz 2 Centrist
Left
3%
Center-left
25%
Centrist
27%
Center-right
17%
Right
19%
Unknown
9%
  • I think it's a very bad idea. As I stated in the edit summary, it's massively overly simplistic - it's almost impossible to say where (for example) Yisrael Beiteinu fit in the political spectrum as they are probably best described as a populist party with both right- and left-wing policies (you seem to be acknowledging this to some extent by failing to identify the places of UTJ and the United Arab List, but describing them as "Unknown" in the bar chart is a nonsense - the parties are very well known, it's just that they are difficult to place, or that you are not familiar with them). Moreover, there is also widespread disagreement about the exact place in the political spectrum of most of the parties - look at the "Political position" of the parties in their infoboxes - most are "Centre-right to right" or "Right to far-right", rather than identifying one simple position. Kadima has been described as centre-left, centrist and centre-right (usually depending on the bias of the author). In summary, trying to put simple labels on massively complex situations is not a productive approach. Number 57 15:13, 5 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

I think a broad brush summary of each party's ideology is useful. Even if sources disagree, this page is supposed to be a brief overview and so it is reasonable to summarise the consensus view of each party's ideology and, citing due weight, ignore sources that present a view that differs from the majority viewpoint. The table of former parties edit

The table of former parties is immensely useful, but I suggest it be increased to include the current parties as well to make it even more useful. For example, I can tell from this page that Gahal had seats from the 5th to 7th knessets but I can't find such information about Likud. Zerotalk 13:37, 9 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned references in List of political parties in Israel edit

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of List of political parties in Israel's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "Khanin":

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 14:16, 5 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Youth movements? edit

It's nice to have a table of youth movements, but why here? Isn't a "political party" an organization that fields candidates for election? Also, there is a long list at Zionist youth movement. Zerotalk 12:14, 29 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Political parties in Israel have historically always been more than just "an organization that fields candidates for elections". Relevant to the political organization of these parties are the various youth and young-adult movements found within Israel. While Zionist youth movement does provide a longer list, the list found here is for youth movements connected to the political sphere in Israel through partisan affiliation (historical and contemporary); whereas the list found in the youth movement page is more numerous and worldwide. I think it's okay. AVSKYE (talk) 20:29, 29 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Monarchist Party edit

Hi, so I've done some research regarding "Mahane Yehuda - Royalist Party" and found that It's not a very notable political organization, with it only having mediocre social media appearances (an inactive Twitter, disabled Facebook, and unfinished site). As aforementioned here before, "a couple of people with t-shirts and flag aren't a political party."

It's also important to note that Political Party Law (1992), section 5(1), and Basic Law: The Knesset both prohibit any political party that:negates the existence of the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state. Furthermore, this political "movement" is not registered with either the Political Party Registry, Voluntary Association Registry, or Corporate Registry at the Ministry of Justice. I propose striking it from the article. AVSKYE (talk) 20:40, 29 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Making sense of this list edit

The Israeli political life is notably operating around "sectors" which work in "silos" with very little flows between each other:

  • Haredi sector
  • Arab sector
  • Secular liberal
  • Secular nationalist
  • Religious nationalist

The article doesn't highlight this fact enough. Once you include this known fact, it becomes clear that the existence of parties in Israel, and their branding, is a mixture of ambition and PR, and just that: in 70 years, Israel has had more than a hundred political parties, yet that sectarian structure remained almost unchanged.
