Missing Links edit

I agree that articles should have links to articles that don't exist when they should exist. This encourages people to help add new pages. But so many of these schools don't have pages on the wiki yet that all the red links become distracting. My opinion is that we should only link the schools that have a page on wiki. Andrew Powell 19:51, 21 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
I prefer blue links too, but I'm also an eventualist. The red links don't bother me so much (obviously :-) because they help make it clear what isn't there, or what goes to a disambig page. Since the IDOE data site has lots of good info; and the schools project & template:Infobox School2 make enough good topical suggestions that at least stubs can be put up relatively easily. Since I made so many red links, I help chip away at them too. Rfrisbietalk 22:35, 27 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

More information edit

If you would like to add more information to your listing (here or on the school's wiki page) This is a good site to get some information about Indiana schools: Get K-12 School Data Fast! just click on the link: Data for one School or one School Corporation in Indiana. This way would could add enrolment and the principle (or other info).Andrew Powell 20:04, 21 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
It would appear that these links may only work during the week. I guess that is another good reason to have the Wiki, open 24/7 Andrew Powell 15:05, 27 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Andrew. What would you think of adding a "Snapshot" column to the tables you've been making? Maybe it could look something like this, with a shortened "Website" link for saving space. Rfrisbietalk 22:22, 28 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
School City / Town Snapshot Website Enrollment(05-06) Principle (05-06) Grades
Rising Sun High School Rising Sun Snapshot Website 340 Mr Keith Majewski 09-12
That would be easy to do. I would prefer to put these on the wiki page for each school but most of them don't have their own wiki pages, and that is why I was adding the tabular data in the first place. I thought it would be good to have some basic data on the school (size, grades, etc). Maybe we should add the School Data page link to the discription of the article. How about this layout? School City / Town Website Enrollment(05-06) Principle (05-06) Grades IDOE Profile Page
Rising Sun High School Rising Sun Website 340 Mr Keith Majewski 09-12 School Snapshot

That looks good too. I just would change the header to "IDOE", a more common abbreviation. I agree the tables start to look like infoboxes if too much is added, but the Snapshots have lots of good info at a low overhead. In terms of the articles, what do you think of the stub boilerplate I suggested below? Rfrisbietalk 19:56, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

As I was afraid might happen, the extra column makes the entries wrap on my display (1024 by 768). Would you consider shortening the entry to "Snapshot" with a shorter header too? If that's not enough, maybe the "Enrollment(05-06)" header can be abbreviated. Rfrisbietalk 00:51, 30 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
How about this? But I still fear that we will get wrapping from long school names etc. I keep my monitors at a high resolution so I did not notice this concern befor Andrew Powell 15:45, 30 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

That looks pretty good. I think my screen resolution is pretty common, so I'll keep an eye out for wrapping. Rfrisbietalk 19:30, 30 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Another thing that we should probably take a look at is getting everything consistent. I know there are some counties without the infoboxes (I can probably fix this pretty quickly), some info is incomplete, and the Knox County box has team names, conferences, and colors. I guess the issue is where do we want to draw the line at where the majority of infoboxes are, or do we want to add the athletic information in? I have no qualms with either, but whichever way is decided should be used for all of them IMO. Mtndrums (talk) 20:24, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I was ALREADY in the process of making things consistant across the article, but then I noticed someone went in and re-added the redlinks that I had fixed, so now I have to go back and undo those changes so redlinks don't appear. ArcAngel (talk) 23:34, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
But the redlinks should be there, that way we know what needs to be added. If you look at the other state lists, they are more or less consistent in this manner. Besides, I wasn't even talking about redlinks, I was asking what was going to be the standard for the information boxes. Mtndrums (talk) 00:06, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Stub boilerplate edit

I added a Stub boilerplate page for starting Indiana high school stub articles. It includes a customized version of Template:Infobox School3, an opening sentence, plus category tags. More detail always can be added to the template and/or narrative. For suggestions on how to expand a school article, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools. Rfrisbietalk 14:57, 28 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Do you have an example of this in usage, either on a real sub page or on your user space somewhere? I like the infobox idea accept when it is on an empty page. I would leave that up to someone that is connected or familiar with the school. Good work though Andrew Powell 21:15, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Here are some examples. Rfrisbietalk 21:44, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Looks good to me. Shouldn't the title text be a little bigger than other text in the box? Or even above the box as you might see elsewhere for example Andrew Powell 15:54, 30 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
The template was developed by someone else and generally is consistent in style with other infoboxes. As far as I can tell, Template:Infobox University probably is more in the exception range. The style like Template:Infobox Law School seems to be much more common. See Wikipedia:Infobox templates for more examples. You always can go to Template:Infobox School3 and make or suggest the changes you have in mind there. :-) Rfrisbietalk 16:23, 30 March 2006 (UTC) Switched to Template:Infobox School3 for more "free" items. Add edit

You need to add William Tell Elementary and Tell City Junior High School to Perry County. Coolgyingman (talk) 17:59, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Tell City High School is already on the list of "high schools" in Indiana -Thank you Andrew Powell (talk) 15:11, 2 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Online Schools edit

There are several schools (two off the top of my head) that are strictly online high schools. Indiana Online Academy and Indiana University High School are two that come to mind. Should these be included? The only issue with IOA is that it does not give diplomas but is strictly based in Indiana and their classes transfer to any public high school.
