Talk:List of heads of state of France

Discussion to reduce article length & resolve context edit

Somehow in the various merging and moving of articles this talk page was redirecting to Talk:List of Presidents of France; FYI.

In a previous conversation relating to merging, moving, and optimising the length of the current page (Which was on the Talk:French Heads of state) various users mooted ideas for resolving the miasma of French Head-of-State articles. In a compromise while further solutions are discussed I and Cards84664 agreed to reduce the length of this humongous article by changing all Wikitable lists here to {{class="wikitable sortable collapsible collapsed"}}, which will make it a bit easier on the eyes and the scrollbar in the meantime.

It was suggested in the previous conversation that each period of French rule might be better served as a short paragraph summarising the period with a link to the relevant dynasty page using {{main}}; instead of the current sprawling list of ruling dynasties and leaders currently on the article. I like this idea, as an article listing feudal kings in continuity with modern elected presidents lacks a great deal of context that such a list would seem to require. Unfortunately I don't have the appropriate understanding of French political history to help contribute in a meaningful way, but I thought I'd help kick-off the conversation. Does anybody have any ideas or comments to help solve this problem? Nigholith (talk) 13:49, 22 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Should this article be split -- other articles have done the same. edit

Shouldn't this article be split, for example in the vein of the recent heads of state of France template?

It is also already the model followed with regards to other similar countries, UK etc...

It seems that the start of "France" is uncertain so it would be best in my opinion to keep this article together. Altanner1991 (talk) 09:07, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
