Talk:List of Hamburger SV players

If anybody has the intention of making this a comprehensive list of those who have played for this club, then that is fine, but the work needs to be progressed. At present, it is clearly a long way from being that: it is an OR list of those who someone has opined to be more notable than their team-mates, and as such there is no inclusion/exclusion criteria, and so the completeness of the page is not verifiable, and the article should be deleted unless it is to be expanded soon to follow the comprehensive example of pages like List of Gillingham F.C. players. I agree it should be expanded ideally to be a complete list but I don't agree it should be deleted in the meantime. What is on the page, whilst incomplete, is still valuable.Eldumpo (talk) 23:03, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

Go read WP:Lists. Then thing has its own inherent value and doesn't need to live under threat of immediate execution. There is a well established practise of creating lists and categories for players of specific clubs. If it helps move guys off the notable players thing that's good. If it has an inherent value as it stands, you will be able to explain what that value is. Please explain what this list is a list of. What would be a suitable and meaningful lead sentence for it as it stands? "This is a list of a small proportion of the hundreds of players who have represented Hamburger SV over the course of 122 years. Readers are welcome to speculate as to why some players are included and others are not." That would seem fairly accurate to me, but I can't see how that has inherent value.
