Talk:List of Coronation Street characters (2010)

May 2010 edit

Hi, two suggestions about this page

1. I think this article should be split into 2 article:

  • Minor characters - Characters who appear for an episode or two
  • Recurring Characters - Characters who are long running, appear over a period of time or character's children.

Or

2. Make this page solely for Characters who appear for a short lengt of time (an episode or minor storyline)

Thanks Mintyyyy 2010 (talk) 21:04, 5 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Personally I think the current set-up works as it is. If the character becomes more prominent in the show, then gradually the process begins of moving them over to their own page. If they don't, then they are inherently just minor, no matter what the period of time is that they appear. To add to that, it might become very confusing to have so many lists - currently I'm trying to transfer characters on List of past Coronation Street characters (1960-1969) and the like to their own articles or to the minor lists. It just seems to me we have too many articles which can basically serve the same purpose. Alternatively, I suppose we could look at maybe changing the name of the minor pages as has been done with EastEnders to include every character from each year, therefore losing the 'minor' tag. I'm unsure about that though. Ooh, Fruity Ooh, Chatty 21:36, 5 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I respect your opinion on this, i would just class a minor characters as people who appear in one storyline, or for a week or two. For instance Pam Hobsworth, has been invloved in a lot of storylines for 'Minor Character' theres the Molly & Kevin affair, selling sandwiches and getting Hayley annoyed & then Bill Webster. So as you say characters like that should get their own page. Mintyyyy 2010 (talk) 12:22, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

"Kat" Armstrong edit

This character has clearly only been referred to on screen as Katy, not Kat -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 10:20, 25 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

As you can see I've changed all, refrences from Kat Armtrong to Katy Armstrong —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mintyyyy 2010 (talkcontribs) 20:28, 21 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Minor character lists name change edit

Slowly but surely the set-up present on Lists of EastEnders characters is starting to creep into these articles, with links trailing off to main articles for major characters, so should we think about just going ahead with the big move. Everything they do seems to end up impacting here so why delay the inevitable, I've been desperate to make 1960-1969, 1970-1979, 1980-1989, 1990-1999 and 2000- redundant for some time now. There are just too many articles serving essentially the same purpose, but this all-in-one format is perfect for eliminating that issue, and also creating a more user-friendly way of finding individual character articles. So, what's the opinion on this, because I get the impression people seem to prefer it? Ooh, Fruity Ooh, Chatty 00:35, 18 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

I did'nt read the the talk page about your edit and deleted it, however i found it silly, for me keep this page for the minor characters, and the rest get their own pages and now that the long-running charcters have their own pages - ie Pam, Mary, Katy - i think the set up works as it is, no need i my eyes for an 'Izzy Armstrong' section with a link to her page. Mintyyyy 2010 (talk) 20:27, 21 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
I think it's best to list them all and remove "minor" from the title, as not every major character can be proved to be notable by Wikipedia's standards, so they would not need a separate article. AnemoneProjectors 01:42, 15 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I'm not the one who started implementing the changes, but I noticed various others doing it. To be honest, I'd prefer it. When I was building the 60s lists I came across characters like Jerry Booth and Sheila Crossley who couldn't by any standards be classed as minor, but I didn't have enough to create a stand-alone article, so I didn't know what to do with them. This would certainly solve that issue, while also merging content from the other decade lists. Ooh, Fruity @ Ooh, Chatty 19:25, 15 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
It really does depend. I think that characters, minor or not, should have an article if they are deemed notable in their own right. If they are major characters but lack real-world info, they should remain part of the list until information is uncovered. I agree we should try and keep the number of lists to a minimum. What we've been doing so far fundamentally wouldn't change, in that if a character, any character can fit the requirements for their own article, then so be it. But with the new lists, it'd give opportunity for us to put characters who lack sources, info, out-of-universe etc. into the list until someone manages to build on it. Judy Mallett and Derek Wilton being prime examples. Are you in favour AD? Ooh, Fruity @ Ooh, Chatty 01:13, 21 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
So, I decided to see what it would look like. I've merged content from various other pages to build on List of minor Coronation Street characters (1960). Check it out, obviously the content I've merged hasn't been edited so some is very badly written (yikes!), and refs are thin on the ground, but what do you think? It's worth a try, no? Maybe this topic should be moved to the Corrie project... Ooh, Fruity @ Ooh, Chatty 22:17, 21 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Colin Fishwick and Charlotte Hoyle edit

it has come to my attention that Charlotte Hoyle has her own page so i have put a link to main page in, I am wondering if the information on this page should be deleted for her or merged accross if its not all already on there. Also Colin Fishwick does not have his own page but he should have had his own page when he was still alive maybe? he has been a big impact on john stape's storyline so maybe it would be best to make a page for him? charlotte i definately think that she should be removed from this page Please state othewise if you dont agree

cheers Bankhallbretherton (talk) 00:39, 15 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

I don't think Colin Fishwick is notable because he didn't appear for very long and there's probably no real-world information about the character. At least there is some about Charlotte, but I don't know if it's enough. I would recommend merging that article to here. AnemoneProjectors 01:41, 15 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Charlotte has been a significant character and unlike Colin, has appeared for much longer. I think she is deserving of her own article. AD 19:27, 15 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Well I have been away from here for a while, from now on any attempt at created any article without adding sources, proving there notability, it shall be reverted. Also I'd stress that now you know this, you make those in the Corrie project aware that it will be a waste of their own time if they do not invest the creation of these articles correctly. Look at Corrie's very own Becky McDonald for example, that's how you're new articles should be apiring to end up like, atleast pages for recent characters like Cheryl Gray have been sourced, fictiona explained... etc... Just because someone appears for a while doesn't give them anyt notability nor does it get them an aticle on wikipedia.RAIN..the..ONE HOTLINE 21:19, 15 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
The Becky McDonald page is fantastic! I would like to join the corrie project if I could as i would be interested in editing some of the pages and keeping updated the current main charaters in certain storylines maybe could be a focus for myself? You might want to add your name here then. - JuneGloom Schmooze 22:17, 15 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Re. Raintheone, please be careful when reverting. If someone restores the article, don't just redirect it again. It could be the start of an edit war. Take it to AFD or the talk page if you can't agree. AD 23:18, 15 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
@JuneGloom I already have done thanks and i look forward to editing! :) Bankhallbretherton (talk) 02:29, 16 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Katy Armstrong, Chris Gray and Owen Armstrong edit

These all warrent their own pages and i think we should move them into their own pages if we can start this at present i dont have time to move them and complete them up to standard so can we possibly discuss this. Mintyyyy 2010 (talk) 21:13, 23 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Russ edit

It says Russ was played by a Robert Simpson in 2010 but I just watched his first few appearances and they all credit him as Finton Flynn.
