Grossly Inaccurate edit

As a member of the club, I can say that this list is grossly inaccurate. No, I will not be correcting it. It is like many writings about the club full of conspiracy theories. Perhaps you should use reputable references — or stolen documents — and not the World Socialist web site. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:8E80:30DF:2D61:90A5:6D63:96E4 (talk) 05:20, 21 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia is unlikely to use stolen documents as sources, for several reasons. As for the specifics of your complaint, I note that the World Socialist web site citation isn't properly supported by the webpage in question (the relevant section starts "Those who attended the 1999 gathering were said to include...", and as such isn't an assertion that individuals attended, merely that some unnamed person said they did), so regardless of the merits of the merits of the website, it cannot be cited for an individual's membership. I shall accordingly remove the citation, though not the name of the individual, since that seems to be supported by a second source. AndyTheGrump (talk) 05:34, 21 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
I'll give you one: Newt Gingrich is not and never has been a member. This page reads like something that was dreamed up by Alex Jones. 2600:1700:8E80:30DF:2D61:90A5:6D63:96E4 (talk) 06:23, 21 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
The New York Times seems to suggest otherwise. Apparently based on what Gingrich's own office stated. [1] Anyway, we don't base content on unverifiable assertions by anonymous individuals. Whether this list is actually merited or not is open to debate, but Wikipedia policy on content needing sourcing isn't. Not here anyway. AndyTheGrump (talk) 12:47, 21 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
As you wish. I am looking at a membership list. Newt is not on it. Making lists based on conspiracy mongers and unreliable sources only makes Wikipedia look foolish. 2600:1700:8E80:30DF:A905:6903:9AD0:ECA2 (talk) 21:18, 2 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

You appear to be talking about a few entries, not the whole list. This series of changes by RandomUser1035763 added some poor sourcing back in December 2020, including a YouTube video and the World Socialist website. Also added at that time was another column in the table listing status of alive or dead. In 2017, Raszoo added Newt Gingrich, Bob Weir and Clint Eastwood based on the terrible sources Infowars and Daily Mail. Of course many people have attended Bohemian Club gatherings as guests, without being members, and they should not be listed here. The page needs a good janitorial flushing. Yeah, I did a fair bit of flushing myself, some years back. Given the choice, I'd prefer to flush the entire thing, but I doubt that a WP:AFD discussion would get far. Meanwhile, removing obviously-poor sourcing if someone points it out is about as far as I'm prepared to go here - maybe the people who consider this list to be so important should be the ones doing the cleaning up. I checked one of your references [39]. It cites an Internet joke site: ebaumsworld. Many people are *guests* at the Grove, and that does not make them members. I would estimate that 80% of your list does not contain actual members. Was Newt a guest? Probably. I would not confirm it.
You really should flush this whole thing. 2600:1700:8E80:30DF:A905:6903:9AD0:ECA2 (talk) 21:23, 2 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

2008 List of the Camps and Camp Members published in WikiLeaks edit

https://wikileaks.org/wiki/Bohemian_Grove_Guest_List_2008 lists ~2250 persons. The page is misnamed (as noted on the talk page) and the club claims ~2,600 active members, so this is presumably the subset of members who were attending, or close to and "guest" is a misnomer. If the bulk of the living persons on this page are on the list at Wikileaks, that would be confirmatory. Wikileaks is a reliable source, but apparently it's been decided it isn't - Wikipedia:RSP#WikiLeaks. Also, as a simple list, like a phone book, it's not subject to copyright. And the talk page on WikiLeaks . org has some useful and un-useful stuff, e.g. at #Listing_of_Camp_Members_and_their_occupations:. Missed12 (talk) 05:18, 21 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

A "guest" is not a member. Binksternet (talk) 06:01, 21 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

red links in table edit

that's a lot of notability grasping for one article on a social club.

let's trim the links, leave the most sourced notable. Augmented Seventh (talk) 23:52, 10 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
