Although in no way do I wish to tarnish Mr. Weyer's legacy, it does seem that mention of his role in game seven of the 1987 World Series might be in order. Mr. Weyer, who as the article notes was quite the outstanding umpire, had the worst night of his career, literally blowing three calls that figured prominently in St. Louis' attempt to get back into the game. The most notable was Weyer signalling Tommy Herr out at first base when Kent Hrbek did not even come close to touching him.

Ordinarily a guy's worst day as a pro might not merit a mention. But we are talking about the seventh game of the World Series here.
