Considerable problems with sources edit

I wrote this article using five different books, plus the Internet and the Azuma Kagami (insofar as I can read it) as sources. I found a lot of differences in the details between them, which I think stems from the fact that there are at least two different sources, the Azuma Kagami and the Gukanshō, and it is rarely clear which is the source of a particular segment. I deliberately left out all details I had doubts about. For example, it isn't clear if Kugyō was alone or not, if he was dressed like a woman or had his betto uniform on, or again if he was wearing a hood. I used the Azuma Kagami version and said so. It would be good to have the Gukanshō's. Mass says that is the most reliable version, but does not specify if that's the one he uses, and in any case gives the subject of Kugyō little attention, and I have never found English source particularly reliable even on important subjects.

In the end, I think the only serious thing to do would be to read the relevant passages of the two books, which I can't do. Because there's so much confusion on this issue, I tried to quote and document as much controversial stuff as I could, which probably didn't make the article easier to read, but I figured this is an encyclopedia, and not a novel. urashimataro (talk) 05:44, 29 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
