section title change

The term legal status is ambiguous and does not properly represent the content of the section. The section does not discuss the status of the settlement under Israeli law, only under international law. I dont see why the title should be changed from an accurate one to a less descriptive one. nableezy - 14:25, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

"Legal status" does not necessarily imply Israeli law and a title is not meant to furnish details present in the text. The title is too long, distracting and dominant on the page, giving undue weight to the section. You used "legal status" on many other such articles. I *think* I used legal status when the section discusses the status of the settlement or outpost under Israeli law as well as international law. Such as for outposts, which are illegal under Israeli law, or for settlements with illegally expropriated private Palestinian land, which is likewise illegal under Israeli law. But for sections that discuss the status of the settlement under international law, and only under international law, I used Status under international law. I dont understand why the title is to long, how it is distracting or dominant, or how it gives undue weight to the section. Unless you can actually substantiate these unsupported assertions I dont see a need to respond to them. nableezy - 18:49, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

Given the long section on attacks on Israeli settlers, a presentation of Israeli settler violence against Palestinians is needed in order to avoid a biased article.

I think the last sentence (about the June 30 2016 attack) needs to be reworded: "The attacker also wounded a security guard who responded to the scene before being shot to death.[15]"

I think you mean that the attacker was shot to death, not the security guard. Before I started adding this cat to pages that already included the subcats of "mixed" or "religious" settlements, I read through the H:CAT page and I didn't see any statement that a page shouldn't belong in both a subcat and the parent cat. Irrelevant statement.

It says that the international community considers the settlements illegal and that Israel disputes this. Although this is true it is irrelevant mentioning that statement in that place or in the article altogether. Jake pres (talk) 00:41, 22 October 2021 (UTC)

Yes of course. Israel divides settlements into two types: completely legal (most of them), and illegal (a few "outposts"). Settlements in the second class are regularly moved into the first class. In both cases, "legal" and "illegal" refer to Israeli domestic law; Israel doesn't recognise the applicability of international law. Zero^talk 03:35, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
