High School infortmation edit

Jose Canseco attended Miami Coral Park Senior High School. --Primetimeking 04:27, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unnecessary phrase? edit

Why include the phrase "did not attend college on a baseball scholarship"?... it is necessary to confirm information in the negative? Do you need to inform people by denying something they wouldn´t necessarily assume otherwise?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 201.248.214.99 (talkcontribs) 15:56, 11 March 2006.

Career with Expos edit

In 2002, Canseco signed a contract, a minor-league contract I believe, but never played a game for the 'Spos 172.166.91.139 21:32, 30 June 2006 (UTC)Nick22akuReply

Recentism a bit out of hand... Including the Surf Dogs in his bio box would mean including every minor league team he has played for. Also, considering the Surf Dogs are the lowest of the lowest professional baseball levels, you might as well include every team he has ever played for in his life. Nick22aku 18:58, 5 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
If no one objects, I plan on removing the Expos (2002) and of course the Surf Dogs (2006) in the bio box since he never played with the Expos and Surf Dogs are not a major league team. Nick22aku 19:04, 5 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
That's fine, I don't think he ever played a regular season game for the Angels either. Also, he just got traded from the Surf Dogs, so maybe that should be updated anyway.--Burgwerworldz 22:39, 5 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
He played pre-season exhibition games for both the Expos and the Angels, so that should be included. The Surf Dawgs and Armada are not major league teams so they should not be included.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.125.2.111 (talkcontribs) 03:21, 12 July 2006.
The above assertion is false. This article is cited and linked. The rationale appears more than adquate. The image is restored into restored "Steriods" section where it is most relevant. – Conrad T. Pino (talk) 17:36, 14 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Clean up the trivia edit

Someone needs to pull the trivia section out of the article and/or incorporate the sourced info into it.
Also, can anyone who's more familiar with formatting explain why the edit by User:96.227.36.145 nuked the bottom part (see also, refs, boxes) of the article? Thanks, dfg (talk) 17:30, 13 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Must mention steroids in first/intro paragraph edit

Canseco's name = Steroids (among other things.) That first paragraph has to be edited to mention that somehow.

CraigP (talk) 15:39, 25 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I was just coming to this talk page to say this. A one paragraph lead for this article is too short as it is, and the lead really needs to discuss steroids based on his prominent involvement in the issue. This needs to be done. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:07, 25 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

What's Accurate and What's Not? edit

I'm confused about a couple entries in the current article. First off, it says Jose left Cuba when he and Ozzie were infants. However, I've heard that his family came to America in the 1970s. Does this mean that they lived somewhere else from the mid-60s to the 1970s? My second concern has a little editoralizing, so I apologize in advance. In the categories section, it lists "People who attempted suicide" as one of the categories. Is this true, or is this someone's sick idea of a joke? There's nothing about that in the article. I'd never heard of any suicide attempt by Jose, and it seems he can't spit on the sidewalk without everyone talking about it. Also, I know that there are people who make up stories like that to get some kind of sick kick. I'd need a relaible source before I'll believe it really happened. Evernut (talk) 15:04, 2 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

I've gone ahead and removed the "People who attempted suicide" category as I've heard absolutely nothing to verify it. Evernut (talk) 16:06, 11 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

I just read a story where he considered suicide, but that's not attempting. Wknight94 talk 16:29, 11 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

2013 edit

"Jose Canseco joins the long list of men who resort to the idiotic defense that they can "get" women without force "

Personal Life edit

Only the more lurid events are described. He was married at least twice, divorced at least once, and has at least one daughter who lives with ??? This material should be added. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nigelrg (talkcontribs) 00:24, 25 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Gun Accident edit

An update is needed to this article.

It should include the details of his injuries after shooting himself in the hand with his loaded semiautomatic handgun.

Accent or no accent on the e in Jose edit

This edit has brought up the following question from me: Does he use the accent or not when spelling out his name? I see on the CommonsCategory and the lead paragraph that the accent is visible as well as in the "Performance-enhancing drugs" section. I'm not sure if that should remain there or drop the accent entirely. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 11:21, 19 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

If I'm reading MOS:DIACRITICS correctly, Wikipedia policy is to retain diacritics in proper names, "if used by the subject". Used or not, they should be consistent within the article. That being said, Canseco appears to spell his name without the acute accent, if you go by his Twitter page, his books, and most articles. I'm sure some editors feel strongly about it either way, and it probably hasn't come up because it would be hard to justify based on Canseco himself or secondary sources. I would suggest we leave it alone, since the article is pretty stable. But the article should use either "Jose" or "José" consistently, above all else. Short description edit

I suggest changing the short description to "Cuban-American Major League Baseball player". He's lived here since he was one year old! Matuko (talk) 18:07, 16 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
