Roan and Casey's "Seduction" Partner edit

When I saw that episode, what it sounded like to me was that Roan failed Casey so CASEY would have more time with his partner, not because Roan himself was attracted to her. Ambaryer (talk) 00:18, 4 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Casey's Rank edit

While the progression of rank WOULD be from Major to Lt. Colonel, they never actually said in "Chuck Versus the Colonel" whether he was promoted to Lt. Colonel or full Colonel. Ambaryer (talk) 12:00, 21 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'd actually argue with that. Chuck in "Chuck Versus the Colonel" refers to his "chicken franchise" which seems to be a reference to the rank insignia of a full colonel ("full bird colonel") rather than the silver leaf of a lieutenant colonel. Welshdruid81 (talk)) 22:53, 11 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Note that in military parlance, though, lieutenant colonels are referred to as "colonel" conversationally, similar to how US Navy lieutenant commanders called "commander" in conversation. It's possible that Casey could have indeed been promoted correctly to lieutenant colonel (as opposed to jumping a paygrade to full colonel). --Clearlyhidden19 (talk) 00:22, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

So that's how things are typically handled when NSA agents work with people who have computers in there heads? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.238.236.19 (talk) 23:17, 16 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'm fully aware of that. However making that inference without a reliable source to confirm this is the case falls under original research. We need a source that says without a doubt Casey is a lieutenant colonel before we can say it in the article. Ambaryer (talk) 01:09, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Apologies if I offended you--I didn't mean to at all. I was thinking more about the military end of it, not the Wikipedia end of it (i.e., official confirmation); I had no intention of changing the main text of the article, which is why I brought up the disconnect on the talk page. Regardless, I agree with you: canon confirmation would be spectacular. --Clearlyhidden19 (talk) 03:53, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Why are people reading too much into this? It is not military proceedure to promote people two steps in rank. Casey HAS to be an Lt Colonel because the military would never make him full bird from a Major. that's standard military policy. Lt Colonel -> Colonel is not a simple step in rank like from Airman to Airmen first class, it's a major step up in the chain of command. - 15.195.201.87 (talk) 22:57, 11 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

The problem is that Wiki tends to get very picky about inferences like that. Believe me, there's often information that gets posted in articles that's correct but unverifiable. It's further complicated by the fact that some people are more gung-ho about the "Third Party Content" thing than others (I was once told I couldn't use a book written on a subject as a source because the book wasn't written SPECIFICALLY to address the particular aspect of the debate the Wiki page discussed, even though it was fully relevant. Wrap your head around THAT). Don't even get me started on some of the Wikias.... It's just a better safe than sorry sort of thing. Ambaryer (talk) 23:35, 11 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
In dialogue, a Lt. Colonel is almost always referred to as "Colonel" by those who don't outrank him, because saying "Lieutenant" makes it wordy and almost derogatory. That aside, could Casey's rank inconsistency be a reference to John "Hannibal" Smith from an earlier NBC action-comedy? --Boycool42 (talk) 13:07, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
We'd really need an outside source on this to confirm that it's a deliberate reference. Ambaryer (talk) 14:07, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Interestingly, it was in the episode alluding to The A-Team that Casey's rank was resolved. --Boycool (talk) 20:14, 27 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Branch of Service edit

Casey's branch of service is HEAVILY confused. In Chuck Versus the Helicopter he says he flew a B-2 Spirit, which belongs to the USAF. There are Marines in his SpecOps forces in Chuck Versus the Ring. Scenes of Casey's apartment shows US Army regalia among his belongings. The official site clouds this even further by ALSO saying he holds his rank from the US Army. The series itself never EXPLICITLY states what branch he's in. However the weight of evidence, including external sources, points to the US Army. Ambaryer (talk) 01:32, 29 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Biography edit

Had to edit to remove that Chuck suggested a "populist tilt" by making his statement. It was obviously a self contradictory statement used to gain access to the buymore after the employees clearly stated he wasn't one of them. He had to act like a populist for a second for them to think he was one of them, but couldn't swallow that nasty pill without first taking the sweet sugar of making sure they understood he doesn't like pinko-liberal pansies. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.90.167.145 (talk) 07:19, 20 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

There was nothing political-tilting about the statement, nor is there any evidence that it was self-contradictory. Hating "hippie and neo-liberal fascists and anarchists" does not rule out also hating "the hypocrite fat-cat suits they eventually grow up to become." The key word is "hypocrite." Original phrasing has been restored. Ambaryer (talk) 13:49, 20 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Retcon? edit

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but Casey's backstory in "Chuck Versus the Tic Tac" seems to contradict earlier episodes, such as his mother referring to him as "Johnny-boy" in "Chuck Versus Santa Claus" and John Casey's presence in the '80s as the Angel de la Muerte. --Boycool42 (talk) 20:11, 15 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Section OR edit

I put in the {{Section OR}} template on the Awards section. It is quite interesting, but I'm afraid it is not Wikipedia material. It should go on Chick Wiki instead if it's not already there. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 17:18, 21 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

It rather belongs under the continuity section, as the known Vietnam decorations do bring up legitimate concerns over the character's continuity. However speculation on the unidentifiable decorations should certainly be removed. Ambaryer (talk) 17:32, 21 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned references in John Casey (Chuck) edit

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of John Casey (Chuck)'s orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 04:42, 6 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
