This article states that after Tam's career ended in 2003, he was a replacement player in the 1994 MLB strike. Clearly that timeline is in error, but I'm not sure what the correct information is. From a quick dig around online, it appears likely that his stint as a replacement player occurred in 1994 when he was a minor leaguer (prior to his major league career), and he was therefore barred from union membership throughout his major league career.
