Quotes

Calvin Bouchard: Well...this afternoon, at the main gate...we be pleased to announce the welcoming, of Mr. Philip Fitz Royce! HAHA! That's right boys and girls, he gon' be he-yah! Now we got drinks at the bar. Dey free.'

These quotes are a good indicator of some of the crazy dialog in the movie. I don't think they should be excluded based on their relevance to the plot. I consider them memorable; I may be in the minority. Other users have commented that quotes can get out of hand so I'm happy to concede the point and not include any for this article. I've tagged this article as needing cleanup for the following reasons:

• The plot summary is badly-written at points and is arguably not in a NPOV. There are a lot of grammatical errors and the tone is somewhat casual.
• The trivia section also contains many grammar issues.

3D filming technique

The section of the article dealing with the 3D filming process was completely incorrect, stating that the film used anaglyph 3D and two separate strips of film. In fact, it was actually polarised 3D using the Arrivision 3D single-strip system. I corrected this, but for some reason the article has reverted to the previous revision. The corrected version still exists in the history. Why has it reverted to the inaccurate version? 213.132.48.105 11:47, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Can you provide sources? The "incorrect" version has inline citations. We need someway of verifying your information. URLs? The JPS^{talk to me} 13:28, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

If you read the corrected version, you will note that I provide citations for the fact that Jaws 3-D used Arrivision 3D (I link to the technical specifications page for the film on IMDb) and that it was available in 3D in a domestic format. I also point out, in the text, that the credits of the film itself reveal that it was shot in Arrivision 3D (sadly, few people seem to bother to read credits, despite the fact that they are a primary source of information). The technical citations in the incorrect version are, unfortunately, all completely inaccurate; whoever wrote that section of the article seemed to be relying on information from a number of DVD review websites that were just plain wrong about the way Jaws 3-D was shot. However, one of the existing citations *does* mention the fact that it was shot in Arrivision - it's the Variety review of the film from 1983.

There is currently no specific Wikipedia article about Arrivision 3D, but if you go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arriscope you will find an existing reference to the Arriscope process which mentions the fact that Arrivision was used for Jaws 3-D.87.201.174.150 21:17, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

I've expanded 'Box office performance'. I'd like to keep the sections for consistency, but I agree that now 'awards' is pretty slim. Do you have any idea how to expand upon that? The JPS^{talk to me} 11:42, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Horror film?

Ezzex (talk · contribs) has repeatedly added "horror" to this film's genre list without providing a citation. At their talk page they have claimed to have sources, but have declined to provide a citation. In my most recent note to them I have noted that WP:BURDEN stipulates that a source be provided when information is challenged for reasons of verifiability.

@Doniago: References supported by Ezzex (talk · contribs) (AllMovie and TCM) are cited on External links, and according to Wikipedia:LEADCITE, references isn't required in the introduction. There are also two sources in the article which mentioned it's a horror film:

Thank you. I was largely concerned because the first film is not described as a horror film, and while a shift in genres wouldn't be unheard of by any means, it was a change that seemed to merit some explanation. DonIago (talk) 17:05, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

Most filmpages on the net label it as a horror-film (and not so often a thriller). Just see:

Jaws 3D on pre-3D tv’s/Live tv

The article says that they could not show the film in 3D on TV or via VHS/DVD since TVs of the era could not display polarized 3D, but that is not entirely correct. While it’s true that polarized 3D was impossible on VHS, DVD, & broadcast/pay tv (Pre-3D TVs), it was possible to convert polorized 3D movies to anaglyph 3D, aka the type of 3D that use two color glasses (typically red and Cyan). The tv network ABC actually did a whole week of sitcoms in the late 90s where they filmed an opening scene for each show in Anaglyph 3D and told viewers ahead of time where to pick up 3D glasses to watch this sweeps week promo. I also own The Final Destination (alternatively known as Final Destination 4) in Analglyph 3D on DVD, which came with 3D glasses. So basically it’s incorrect to say that this film could not have come out in 3D prior to 3D blueray disc and 3D TVs. It’s more accurate to say they showed the film in 2D on tv and on It’s VHS & DVD release because of the hassle of giving out 3D glasses and because no one wants to watch in it 3D without the 3D glasses, that’s if they even care about seeing it in the original 3D in the first place.
