Link problems edit

A number of the links in the list of films below point to films, tv shows, and even musical artists that have nothing to do with the films in question. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 208.127.58.208 (talk) 16:23, 27 March 2007 (UTC).Reply

Origin of name edit

Oakie's IMDB biography states his mother was actress Evelyn Oakie. I'd assume that he took his stage name from her, rather than from the state of Oklahoma. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mayerson (talkcontribs) 19:18, 12 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

As usual, IMDB is wrong. It's reliability is often an issue, which is why current Wikipedia guidelines don't recomend it as a reference. His mom was a psychology teacher according to a very good reliable source.Sector001 (talk) 18:50, 31 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Deaf? edit

I don't want to put it in the body of the article without more information, but according to Jules Dassin in an interview on Criterion's Thieves' Highway dvd, Oakie was entirely deaf. It seems like a noteworthy fact, but I don't know if it's verified anywhere else. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.240.223.79 (talk) 21:18, 11 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Oakie was not "Entirely" deaf, but he had limited hearing & he would read the lips of his co actors to catch any ad-libs or departures from the script.Saxophobia (talk) 17:48, 9 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

PHOTO! edit

Can we please get a photo for this article? --76.115.67.114 (talk) 06:32, 20 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Autograph this! edit

Oakie was famously both hot-tempered and very averse to signing autographs: approach him and ask, and you were apt to get his offer of a knuckle sandwich instead. Needs a cit, which I cannot supply, but it was a major quirk that would seem to meet requirements for notability. 66.249.172.94 (talk) 21:13, 27 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
