This year's winner died shortly afterward. edit

It's in the news that this year's winner, Arcadius, collapsed and died shortly after the race. It's reported that it was caused by an aneurysm. Usually, steeplechase deaths are the result of falls.

Proposed Additions to Iroquois Steeplechase Wiki page edit

Proposed Additions edit

(Redacted)

I propose that the above additions be made to the Iroquois Steeplechase wiki page as per information that is found on the organization's website, www.iroquoissteeplechase.org Mef2016 (talk) 17:03, 5 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi Mef2016, and thank you for your suggestions. However, your proposed text is too promotional and does not adhere to Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising, marketing or public relations, but the purpose of your proposed text is clearly to attract spectators and entrants. As such, it cannot be added to the article unless it is substantially rewritten. The most obvious red flags are phrases that are frequently used in press releases, but are not appropriate for an encyclopedia. These promotional terms include phrases such as "thrilling contests", "celebration of spring", "iconic", and "anxiously awaits." Just as importantly, watch out for sentences that sound vaguely positive, but don't actually tell the reader anything specific. They should be condensed and written more tersely.
In addition, I have removed the text of your suggestions because it appears to be copied or closely paraphrased from the Iroquois Steeplechase's official website. Wikipedia is an open-source project: we are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License, which permits our readers to reuse our text for whatever purpose they desire. As a result, copyrighted text for which we lack permission to reuse is incompatible with the free license, even if it is from your website. Therefore, you must rewrite the text from scratch.
