Singles List edit

Anyone got a full list of single releases? --PopUpPirate July 8, 2005 23:31 (UTC)
Yes, [1] Neo139 02:45, 20 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

To whom it may concern: The Singles table shows "Wasted Years" as charting #35 on the Billboard Hot 100. I am holding a copy of the 8th edition of *The Billboard Book of Top-40 Hits* (2004) and there's no Iron Maiden listed at all. So either the book or this list is wrong. 71.7.48.30 (talk) 11:20, 13 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Live!! Plus One edit

Is this an album or an EP? It's listed under both IainP (talk) 13:35, 2 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

It could be considered as both. The Japanese version was a 4-track EP; the Greek version was a 9-track album. However, most Iron Maiden fans regard it as an EP i.e. it's rarely listed along with their other full-length albums. More information here. Paul Armstrong 06:25, 17 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

where can one get details about Iron maiden album certifications in Japan, Brazil, France and Sweden? Will231982 07:44, 30 July 2006 (UTC)will231982Reply

Have updated info on album certifications, with data from Sweden, Australia, Norway, Holland and Poland added to the existing ones. Will231982 14:33, 10 September 2006 (UTC)will231982Reply

Country codes edit

There's some confusion about the use of country codes. I propose that we follow the three-letter country code ISO standard. It's widely accepted and people can easely refer to it if they're not sure about one code (link: ISO 3166-1 alpha-3)

I've changed the CHI into CHE, since I first used the CH which is the two-letter code for Switzerland.

I'm also the one who added the Soundscan data. As soon as I get current data, I will update the entries.

I added the chart position for Australia (I wasnt logged in at the time). I dont know the sales or chart positions in any other country, though. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Magicana (talkcontribs) 11:05, 11 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I dont think it's neccesarily appropriate to only include the album sales for the U.S. A worldwide sales figure would be more to the point as Maiden are a band with international popularity and the U.S have never embraced the band to the extent other countries have —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.44.212.233 (talk) 01:30, 4 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sales numbers too high edit

Some of the (US) album sales numbers on here are too high. I'll list what I found:

1. Number of the Beast:
RIAA: Platinum
Wiki: Over 2 million

2. Powerslave:
RIAA: Platinum
Wiki: Over 2 million

3. Somewhere in Time:
RIAA: Platinum
Wiki: Over 2 million

4. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son:
RIAA: Gold
Wiki: Over a million

5. Fear of the Dark:
RIAA: No certification
Wiki: Over 500,000

6. Live after Death:
RIAA: Platinum
Wiki: Over 2 million

Either Wiki is wrong or it's the RIAA. Somehow, I trust the RIAA more.

Dude... to tell you the truth these are only US sales.... and Iron Maiden has sold more in UK... they have sold only about 20 million in US whereas there total sales are 100 million.... you see?The very idea of the US sales column becomes irrelevent.59.182.145.228 (talk) 06:17, 3 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

That doesn't mean Wiki should put up wrong sales numbers. And I wouldn't be too sure about total sales exceeding 100 million. It was 70 million for a long time and the given sources aren't always that reliable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.177.227.94 (talk) 11:19, 12 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I can't understand why some of us feel unconfortable with sales result of 100 mln copies of albums world wide. According to Maidens global label, mighty EMI RECORDS, backcatalogue of theirs original recordings and some of current releases has trespassed the treshold of 70 mln with the end of 2007. Quoting the official statement - many diffrent cases or ocassions on Band's official site is always citin' the sales figures from this one source. So same for bands like Queen or Depeche Mode. Some results for their market positions are reflecting only the official state of EMI channel of distribution at this moment, nothing more. Maidens since 20 years have been distributing by some labels independent from EMI policy - CBS, EPIC, CMC, Sactuary or even Metal-IS! Total number of sales for LP phisical discs pictures summaric results of market demand for ALL of these record manufactures. So same with AC/DC, For Warner Bros - 155 mln. But Plus Sony equals 200 mln and still counting these days!

There are so many different sources in the web, professional - believeable, of course - just we can proof that state of result. Check the Maiden Wiki Page and should find some of them, there's a bit more! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.146.181.242 (talk) 11:24, 19 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

That's truth but it's not uncomfortable for the "maidenmaniax", but fans of Metallica as "one metal band on Earth ever with 100 mln album sales". Not exactly: current sales status for Maiden, often cited ever on Official Website - are commpilled according to EMI catalogue figures. Iron Maiden released 31 album of total catalogue, for 6 independent label - paths, and sold them in total numbuer of almost 110 - 116 mln. So same seems to happen with US sales. RIAA has given results only for prime Capitol distribution, not pointing at re-masters sales for other labels (CMC, SONY, CBS, UMe and Sanctuary). In fact, total sales of albums under different labels reached the figure of more than 2 mln. Read the Official Bios - "Somewhere In Time" reached Double Platinum in few first years after it's release (1989) - but RIAA doesn't says nothing at all about... Band's got the official "2XPlatinum Certificate Boards" on their walls - some misunderstainding to me.

Maiden sold about 15 mln albums in Latin America - circa 20 mln on the area of States, 7 mln - rest of world, and between 50 - 60 mln on the Old Continent (Europe + UK). We shall count the every kind of formats, phisical or not. 31 albums worldwide (full catalogue offer) and over 100 mln summary sales - with near 90 mln for EMI Rec. Be careful and patient for datas, please! — Preceding unsigned comment added by FaustPOLSKA (talkcontribs) 11:54, 12 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Album Sales in the U.S edit

I have discovered Somewhere back in time did sell over 2 million in the U.S sourced by the book 30 years of the beast and the bonus material on the reissued CD. Also the book 30 years of the beast states Seventh Son of a Seventh sold 1.2 million units in America. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.145.217.9 (talk) 13:14, 6 July 2008 (UTC) Yes i saw this too!Reply

Mainstream Rock Tracks positions edit

The singles table doesn't have a column for said chart, but Allmusic said they have placed on it 6 times. Number of the Beast Charting Position Fix edit

Hello all, I have fixed the US Billboard 200 chart position for NotB. I have changed it from #33 to nothing. I am not sure who added it, but here is the information that was there. Note that it used an AllMusic band page as a ref (one that doesnt even mention NotB charting):

  • 33 [2] (allmusic. com link)
|title=The Billboard 200 - The Number of the Beast|date=5 November 1983|work=Billboard (magazine)|Billboard |publisher=Nielsen Business Media, Inc|accessdate=30 October 2008
Why is an AllMusic link named as a Billboard link?

And the proof:

  • Chart History
This Album has never charted.[3]

I'm one of the biggest Maiden fans around, but honestly, if they didn't chart with this album, they didn't chart. I'm also guessing (see first entry above) whoever added it made a mistake in naming it too? AllMusic isn't Billboard 200... not sure why they named an AllMusic list as Billboard 200. If anyone has other information that contradicts Billboard, I'd be happy to hear it. Best, ROBERTMFROMLI TALK/CNTRB 19:52, 8 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

The Final Frontier UK Gold Certification edit

Hello, I just wanted to create a section about this issue as a record, to justify maintaining the Gold record status and, if necessary, a place for further discussion. Here is a summary of the issue- in the past year a Gold UK certification for The Final Frontier has been continually added and removed as there is no record of it in the BPI database. On 30 December 2011, an IP user re-added the Gold UK certification except this time referencing a charity auction on Iron Maiden's website in which the band's manager, Rod Smallwood, posted his Gold UK award for The Final Frontier. From this evidence it became clear that the album has gone Gold but hasn't been documented in the BPI database, after which I began sending emails to the BPI to find out what the issue was. Today (16 January 2012) I received a response, which I have posted below (with the names deleted):

Dear ********

Thank you for your email. In answer to your query, BPI is permitted to record certifications only when the record company notifies us of the award. In this particular case we have not received a notification from the record company but it doesn’t necessarily mean the sales have not been achieved, merely that the certification has not been claimed.

Please also note that the BPI certification is only available to BPI’s member companies. Many record labels do not belong to BPI so we are not the ultimate source of certification information. If you have a particular query you would be best advised to contact the record company who released the record.

Kind regards

.***** ******* Office Manager

Overall then, what must have happened is that EMI haven't submitted notification to the BPI for their records and the Gold certification stands. I know citing a primary source is not ideal (see WP:ABOUTSELF and WP:SELFPUBLISH) but I do think an exception should be made in this regard as I doubt the band's manager would auction something that isn't the general article. In any case, I haven't been able to find a secondary source as an alternative, but if one is found I would recommend that it is added.

Hopefully this post will clear things up.--Nerdtrap (talk) 19:30, 16 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

ITALY'S PEAK CHART POSITION edit

Good morning. I've found some issues with the peak chart positions in Italy. I've checked the site hitparadeitalia.it and it reports as follows (PP = Peak Position, YC = yearly charting):

THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST PP 10, YC 61

PIECE OF MIND PP 18, YC 89

SOMEWHERE IN TIME PP 14, YC 77

SEVENTH SON OF A SEVENTH SON PP 8, YC 58

NO PRAYER FOR THE DYING PP 15, YC 89

FEAR OF THE DARK PP 7, YC 69

THE X FACTOR PP 13, YC 74

The positions indicated from "Brave New World" on seem correct. Unfortunately, I haven't found any data for "Iron Maiden", "Killers", "Powerslave", "Live at Last" and "Virtual XI". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.44.130.120 (talk) 12:46, 3 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Somewhere in Time certification edit

The biography by Mick Wall says 2× Platinum, but RIAA only says 1×. Surely the actual organisation doing the ceritifications is a more authoritative source, unless we get an excerpt from the book explaining how they are wrong? Mac Dreamstate (talk) 21:12, 12 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Partly you're obviously right but only partly indeed. We could find info about SiT being "over 2 mln sold in the States" in many different sources including magazines andthe official press release edited by music labels Capitol/EMI and the final evidence is the double platinum plaque on the Steve Harris' house wall which were pictured back in the days. We must realize there's some "incompatibility" with official statements between organisations and the certificate plaques REALLY delivered to the band, there're some examples: TBoS went platinum in Brazil which was commemorated with band's pictures with this one and Warner Brazil people, but the official source still haven't updated the data, so same was in Poland with some IM's DVDs and with "Senjutsu" in Sweden. Just before Ullevi Stadium show the band and management were pictured with gold certificates for this album but the official soure aren't updated. I think we should acknowledge data from different sources and verify the results with the reality - mainly official statement of band's management, official pictures where you may just see the awards on your own eyes. I've known the differences analyzing certificates given to many other musicians/groups. I think you should consider my statement once again. THX
~~ RALFFPL (talk) 09:34, 13 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it's plausible that the RIAA site hasn't been updated yet, or may never be updated. If there are indeed other sources besides Mick Wall's book which support 2× Platinum, then I'm fine with that. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 22:17, 13 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
The RIAA website is the one and only reliable source for RIAA certification (see what I did there?). There are examples of records that sold millions but were never certified by RIAA, mainly because the record company didn't want to pay for the certification. In some cases the cheap record company will award the artist their own "Gold Record". This is NOT a RIAA certification and you can see clearly that the certification does not have "RIAA" stamped over it. By the way, the least reliable sources are always band management - they have the most reasons to invent certifications that never happened, and the least to lose. Muhandes (talk) 10:59, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Interesting. So it should be changed back to 1× Platinum? Mac Dreamstate (talk) 19:18, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
I think 1× is correct. We have an authoritative source, if Mick Wall says otherwise, he may be referring to an award by the label, or this might be like this, saying the album is eligble for award. Or he might simply be wrong. RIAA has been kind enough to give us an authoritative database of certifications, that's all we need. Muhandes (talk) 09:54, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Muhandes: Would you be able to keep an eye on the ridiculous amount of certifications the user RALFFPL has tried to restore to this article? I've dropped a line on their talk page about this. They are adding certifications for countries without charts on the page, repeating citations, and using InfoDisc as a source. Ss112 11:09, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Ss112: I'm with you on this, but I'm afraid I don't have time to keep an eye on anything. I suggest RALFFPL starts being constructive and following consensus. Muhandes (talk) 12:37, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
