Talk:Iran–Turkey relations

Untitled edit

Can someone write on the controversial event where an Iranian merchant carrying 7.7 billion US$ and 10 billion in gold was stopped at the Turkish Border Custom. Some sources speculate the transfer of Iranian funds and assets was destined to Lebanon to be given to Hezbollah, and Turkey would be the middle route to there. Other sources imply he was investing the assets into the Turkish economy or that it was handed over to the Iranian Central Bank Of Turkey.

This amount of wealth would certainly rank this individual as one of the wealthiest individuals in the world, ranked around 10th by Forbes standards. However many argue these funds did not belong to this individual and that it was linked to the Iranian government. Many wonder how this got past Iranian Ministry Affairs and the Intelligence Community, and how this much wealth is not being used inside the country. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.80.105.24 (talk) 05:06, 11 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Kurds as evidence of warm between Iran and Turkey edit

Given Turkey's history with their Kurdish population, past and present using their presence in Turkey as proof positive of warm relations or what not between the two is kind of strange. Would it be wrong to delete this? Alcibiades979 (talk) 12:45, 14 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • The article just indicates both countries have minorities in common. The main points I see in the article are that Iran and Turkey both agree they need to prevent a Kurdish state, and that in the 20s, Iran and Turkey both agreed they needed to "deal" with their Kurdish minorities. So I read the article as implying that both states have a shared interest in supressing Kurdish national ambitions, but it's probably hard to find a news source that out and out says that (maybe you'd find it in a book tho). -Furicorn (talk) 22:37, 17 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
