There are some things which I have heard or read as a Native of the Virgin Islands partly descended from migrants from India. I do not have corroboration so this might be classified oral tradition or local legend.

"Bernhardt family" I think that the account does not mention the Bernhardt family who were Christian converts and remained on the island. There is a family in the Dominican Republic descended from this family which first migrated to Puerto Rico.

"Civil family" There was a person in Bengal who communicated with people doing Virgin Islands genealogy that his ancestor was a mixed race European and African tradesman who accepted work as a ships carpenter on a vessel bound from St. Croix to Calcutta where he settled and left descendants.

My own ancestors are among the group which had initially contracted to work in St. Kitts Nevis but broke contract and escaped to Statia but maintained communication with other Indians who had served with them before his escape. The family's migration to St. Croix was around the same time as the St. Kitts migrants. He was born in Burma and spoke Bengali we do not what religion he was or whether his family was from what is now India, Bangladesh or Burma. He was in a relationship with a Christian woman of European and African descent a native of Statia their children were raised Christian.
