Requested move edit

Iejima is the correct romanization of the island[1]. This should be at Iejima, which, for some reason, is a redirect here Nik42 06:53, 2 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Next time, please go to WP:RM directly, this could have been done 6 months ago! --Mkill 00:29, 22 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Island in Infobox map edit

The island in the Infobox map is Okinawa: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Okinawa+Prefecture,+Japan/@26.5849961,127.7173526,9z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x34f57062eeab5be7:0x35bb617286fdd1ef?hl=en

Iejhima is a small, peanut-shaped body of land lying just off the SE coast of Okinawa. Contrast its appearance (and location) here: https://www.google.com/maps/@26.7219407,127.7901551,14z?hl=en.

Please feel free to insert a map of Iejima in place of that currently used of the Okinawan archipelago among the Ryukyu Islands. Yours, Wikiuser100 (talk) 23:17, 4 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

For one, the map is of Japan, not "the Okinawa archipelago among the Ryukyu Islands". Second, the blip indicating Iejima is distinctively to the West of Okinawa Island. The map is not a map of Iejima, but of Iejima's location within Japan. ミーラー強斗武 (StG88ぬ会話) 23:29, 4 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
The locator map used is all but useless, causing more confusion than any clarity it can imbue. Iejima isn't visible whatsoever. All that's given is an oversized dot in the insert, which someone would need a solid knowledge of Japan and the Ryukyu Islands to identify as being of a scattering of small islands that could not fit in the bottom left of the main map. Iejima wouldn't even be the size of a period on it. The single word caption "Iejima" leads the reader to errantly imagine that's what they are looking at.
To resolve this and head off any edit warring I have inserted a map in the body of the article clearly showing the size, shape, and location of Iejima relative to Okinawa (which is what Iejima and its location is relevant to, the battle to control Okinawa in World War II. I've also clarified the caption to the locator map in the Infobox. Yours, Wikiuser100 (talk) 03:43, 5 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
That works for me, however "Okinawan archipelago" is a little confusing, because of the scale of the map. Either you mean the Ryukyu Islands or the Okinawa Islands, but because it's difficult to see Iejima amongst its neighbors, I changed the wording to "Okinawa Islands" with a wikilink. ミーラー強斗武 (StG88ぬ会話) 05:05, 5 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Fine. A Solomonic compromise (given the region's geographic complexity). All good. Wikiuser100 (talk) 12:11, 5 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
