-imo this article seems to be written by a racist person. It does not stay neutral in its investigation. Has a definite bias in the writing style. Needs more sources to explore the topic more fairly. Ignores the topic of minority on minority discrimination and only focuses on white people.

POV

The article appears to have a slight bias insofar as it portrays African-Americans as having an inevitable depreciation effect on property values. A specific instance is found at the end of the Relocation paragraph: "...causing white flight and in many cases, leads the neighborhood into a downward spiral of dilapidation." A possible edit, and perhaps a template for further edits, might be to modify the sentence as "...possibly leading to white flight and in many cases, leads the neighborhood..."

However, in reading even that suggestion, I think the following problems exist: (1) The term white flight could be phrased more academically and (2) The sentence can be interpreted as: "causing white flight, which inevitably leads to the downward spiral of dilapidation". Is it fair to suggest that with a departure of white residents, property values invariably decline? Whereas the core of the article appears neutral in its discussion of illegal and discriminatory practices, there may be grounds for people to draw an unintended corollary: as blacks move in, property values fall. Request streamlining of the article by the original author to ensure the main idea remains expressed without a possible inference. Arkeides (talk) 23:38, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Suggestions

I know that the History segment says that housing segregation has always existed, but maybe try to find data that's not still within 100 years from today, such as an example of slaves living in their own quarters separate from the master's house.

I think that there should be a new segment for information about housing segregation today. There are neighborhoods all over the U.S. that are overwhelmingly one race, usually by economic needs or by choice. This just seems to be a page about the past. Also, maybe begin the article just saying different ethnic groups, then saying "such as African Americans." By mentioning African Americans first thing, it seems that the writer has a bias toward information concerning African Americans. Alissahart (talk) 22:16, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

I agree that it would be helpful to have information about present-day housing discrimination. However, the rest of these complains are asinine. First, including the example that slaves lived in separate quarters from their master is not housing discrimination; it's slavery. Second, the phrase "such as" preceding "African Americans" indicates that African Americans are one of several ethnic groups. The statement is factual, not biased. Third, "white flight" is an academic term first used to describe the housing trend that occurred in Chicago in the mid-20th Century. Last, the suggested changes to the author's syntax (re: white flight and falling property values) affect no meaningful change to the concept the author intends to convey. It appears that these neutrality concerns are a pretext for discomfort with the subject matter. Introduction to the article

I've shortened the lede of this article considerably, removing sections on one broader impact of segregation as well as sections on gentrification. That does not mean those don't belong in the article (though gentrification should probably not be mentioned in the lede) but the way in which they were presented was driving toward a conclusion, rather than as an executive summary of the contents below.

I think the introduction to an article like this should outline the methods and history of the practice, including summarizing the relevant laws--at a minimum mentioning the post war GI bill and housing benefits. Two more things

As this article is expanded, take a look at Housing discrimination (United States) and Redlining to see where similar practices are covered (obviously segregation is distinct from discrimination but there are some elements in the article with some overlap). In those cases it may make sense to summarize those sections and offer a wikilink as needed.

Review of Article PJHC

Overall, I think you did a great job on your expanded contributions to the article. I could not find any major spelling errors or typos that compromise the professionalism of the page except for the ones I had mentioned in the peer review. I like that you expanded on the section involving the unequal living standards and health disparities resulting from housing segregation. The content is great and was easy to understand. The new pictures really helps the reader visualize the topic and the formatting of each section is clear. I think adding new sections on the causes of housing segregation and initiatives against housing segregation would be valuable additions.

Hi aie21, I agree with all of what Dwang41 is saying. An initiatives to combat housing segregation would improve the article. Also, the section on health could also include many other things. For example, environmental justice. Some of the sentences you added do not have sourcing and the article would be improved by sourcing them.
