the source for that quotation is the Christian Science Monitor, not a peer-reviewed journal of sociology. I doubt that all sociologists would accept the argument. In fact, to the extent that it has been covered by reliable sources, I expect the matter is controversial. Therefore I suggest removing or substantially weakening the claim in the article - 'journalist X of the christian science monitor suggests that the reason for homeless men outnumbering homeless women is Y' or whatever. --129.67.169.238 (talk) 16:39, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

upon reading the article a second time, I notice that most of the claims it makes are backed up with the casual empiricism of journalists. journalists may be considered reliable sources for, say, accounts of events, statistics etc. but they are not at all reliable when it comes to the truth about causal links. editors need to consult academic texts, not dilettantes. --129.67.169.238 (talk) 16:46, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

Biased much?

This whole article seems a little biased and only contains facts about how bad homelessness is and not any other relevant information. Perhaps how there are around 10,000 homeless people in all of Japan, or maybe that there are around 5 times more homeless people in Los Angeles than all of Japan combined. Rent in Tokyo

Uhhhh, I just checked a Japanese rental website (http://rent.homes.co.jp/), there's apartments on Tokyo, 2 minute walk from central Tokyo station that go for 70,000yen a month, even using current exchange rates that's only $870USD. Going Further north and still being 10min from central Tokyo by train and you see apartments for 56,000yen, so where did $1250 come from? People of obscurity?

I think something here was lost in translation: "In 2018, number of homeless people counted in Japan was 4,977 (4,607 males, 177 females and 193 people of obscurity)".[12]

Perhaps a Japanese speaker can clarify what is meant in the original text by the term 'People of obscurity'. Does this mean that they fall into neither category, or is their gender simply unknown to those doing the count?
