Now Start class given the added sections on geology, glaciation, and lists of peaks and passes. The following needs to be addressed before the article can be considered for B or higher class:
  • How did the range get its name? Who named it and when?
  • The geology and glaciation need expansion and it would be good to have a different reference on geology to provide some balance.
  • A photo or two of the range, either of one or two peaks or a distant view of the peaks would be great.
  • Other section possibilities: fauna and flora. A brief mention is made of animals and plants in the lead section.
  • The external links not already in the references should be checked to see if they indeed can become references.
  • The Paul Hunt full reference and the associated references added by reference tags should be amalgamated into one as it is essentially duplicate info but that's not really a barrier to B class.
  • I'm unable to determine from the current text as to the importance of this mountain range in Japan thus I have left the importance to low. If there is any cultural significance associated with this range or other factors that may highlight its importance in Japan, that should be mentioned.

Please keep in mind that the above suggestions are meant to aid editors in improving the article and are not intended to criticize the efforts of the editors (past and/or future). Thanks to the editors for recent improvements to move it out of stub class. RedWolf (talk) 06:29, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

The low importance is an appropriate assessment in my opinion. The area is not very populated and only important in two maybe three cultural aspects:
  1. Is an important area for horse breeding at least in Hokkaido.
  2. It is an important area for the production of sea weed, which is not relevant for the mountain range.
  3. It is a center of Ainu culture, which I can address in the article.
