Hardy Brown was the linebacker running backs ran away from. His high school coach taught his team the "shoulder tackle", which involved a deep windup into a powerful upward hip rotation and a vicious - but neither illegal nor unfair - follow through. Hit squarely by Hardy Brown, running backs could be seen flying through the air as far as ten yards. Brown was a thrill to watch, a defensive player who played the game with enthusiasm and dedication to the game and to the teams he played for that is rarely seen in today's corporate style NFL.
