Flags edit

Is it right that the list of winners presently contains flags of England and Scotland, rather than the flag of the United Kingdom? It doesn't have state flags for USA drivers. --Scott Davis Talk 12:40, 10 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

That would be correct as England and Scotland are countries, not states. However I note that these have all been converged to UK flags. Not worried either way. Rwintle (talk) 16:51, 19 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Misc information edit

How is the history of TV coverage table misc information? It is grouped by year and is fairly well organised - it's not a random list of information. Why is that tag there? Chevymontecarlo. 10:42, 18 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

That's how the Wikipedia template writes up the trivia tag these days. At some point it's been interpreted all trivia shows up as bullet point lists and does not manifest itself in other manners.
Why is the largest or second largest component of this article a chart of television commentators? How does this better explain to the reader the significance of the Toronto race? How is it even important to the topic? It is miscellaneous information in the respect that it is oblique to the topic, which is a motor racing street race in a major Canadian city. It should describe, its history, how the event works. Lists of television reporters belongs on the same level of relevance as the person who waved the checquered flag each year or the person who handed the race winner the trophy on the podium, or as seems popular elsewhere, a list of videogames which features the circuit. A more important list might contain the identities of the Clerk of Course or Chief Steward, or a list of the owners of the winning teams, or a list of Toronoto Mayors who governed the events funding, or a list of Toronto Police chiefs... you get the picture. --Falcadore (talk) 12:36, 18 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

USAC (Mosport) edit

Although interesting, why is the list of winners of this event here? Article is about the Honda Indy Toronto and its Molson predecessors, not about Indy/Champ car open wheel racing in Canada in general. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rwintle (talkcontribs) 16:55, 19 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: not moved. Consensus not to move, based on WP:PRECISE and WP:PROMO (closed by non-admin page mover) BilledMammal (talk) 16:00, 19 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Grand Prix of TorontoHonda Indy Toronto – Known as the Honda Indy Toronto since 2009 and Molson Indy Toronto from 1986-2005. WP:COMMONNAME would not lead use to use the name that only existed for two editions of this race (2006, 2007.) Article was previously at this title and moved without discussion in 2021 - @GhostOfDanGurney: 162 etc. (talk) 22:49, 10 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose per WP:PROMO. Wikipedia does not name articles based on who the highest bidder for an entitlement sponsorship is. Current title is also more WP:PRECISE than "Indy Toronto", an unusual way to name a race and which doesn't tell the average reader what the article's scope is. - "Ghost of Dan Gurney" (work / talk) 02:53, 11 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
The problem is that "Grand Prix of Toronto" is neither the current name, or the common name. Every secondary source that has written anything about this race in the last 15 years uses the name "Honda Indy Toronto." 162 etc. (talk) 17:42, 11 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
This article doesn’t only deal with the last fifteen years though. Tvx1 18:58, 11 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
by that logic this article should only cover the 2006 and 2007 races—blindlynx 19:21, 11 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • support i don't see how WP:PROMO applies here, typically sponsored names are used for things, for example as much as i still all it the Skydome the article is Rogers Centre. while 'Indy Toronto' is no doubt the common name as Ghost pointed out it has issues that 'Honda Indy Toronto' does not have—blindlynx 16:51, 11 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose per WP:PRECISE. Honda Indy Toronto on covers a fragment of the history of this event and thus the contents of this article. We aren’t under any obligation to use the current title. Moreover, it appears that this article covers more than the Exhibition Place event.Tvx1 18:08, 11 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose per WP:PROMO and WP:PRECISE - Article is not exclusively about the race known by the idiosyncratic sponsored title "Honda Indy Toronto" but about a variety of races that have not all gone by that title and that have not all been Indycar races. WP:RECOGNISABILITY is also a concern, "Honda Indy Toronto" sounds like the name of a vehicle, whereas "Grand Prix of Toronto" is clearly the name of an event. HumanBodyPiloter5 (talk) 03:24, 12 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
I think we can definitely edit the lead to better reflect this. - "Ghost of Dan Gurney" (work / talk) 12:33, 12 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose per WP:PRECISE. As with above "Honda Indy Toronto" sounds more like a name of a vehicle than a race event. Hansen SebastianTalk 03:25, 19 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Made a major trim of out-of-scope content here. This article is about the IndyCar/CART event. It is not about every race event ever held at this circuit. See also Exhibition Place#Race course. 162 etc. (talk) 22:32, 18 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
