Spelling of surname edit

The correct spelling may be Shields, see Records. Peter Horn User talk 20:02, 7 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

As well as 1849. Peter Horn User talk 20:18, 7 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
1847 [1] corrected from sheilds
trove has a tag and articles, most have been mis-spelled, correcting [2]
hmmm, [3] [4] [5] [6], I thinks he may have suffered from the common colony malaise of spell it how you know how which often wasn't well. His published 1861 book has Sheilds on the author page..
the bio for Francis Webb Wentworth-Sheilds seems to be the same person and quotes his father as Sheilds. --Dave Rave (talk) 09:39, 20 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
and finally, Burke's Peerage has him listed with Sheilds [1] --Dave Rave (talk) 07:28, 1 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Early engineer. edit

Was Sheilds the first engineer on the Sydney Railway Company?
Does "early" engineer mean he may bave been the second engineer, in which case, who was first? Tabletop (talk) 11:13, 27 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

methinks someone wrote a bad bio and everyone copied it. He was 'the' early engineer, some have him as chief engineer. --Dave Rave (talk) 09:53, 20 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thomas Woore was appointed engineer 24/11/1846 and did early surveys, this was before SydRailCo was formally named/incorporated 10/10/1849. Sheilds started 1/2/1849, so now it's wording between the entity planning the building and the entity as named SydRailCo --Dave Rave (talk) 23:09, 5 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
