Abuse v. violence

"result from witnessing domestic violence in a home where one of their parents are abusing the other parent"

I was wondering, couldn't we more broadly call this effects of domestic abuse on children? "Violence" may make readers assume we only mean hitting, but wouldn't this also be in the scope of things like yelling, psychological abuse, threats, etc which may not seem obviously as included in violence as the more overt kinds? IMO the use of "domestic violence" in preference to "domestic abuse" throughout Wikipedia is wrong. --Penbat (talk) 09:38, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

I have read that the term "domestic violence" does include abuse. Domestic "violence" should not give the assumption of physical violence since it can include physical, emotional, financial, verbal, and sexual forms of abuse. --Anavalop8 (talk) 05:34, 19 April 2020 (UTC)

A bit narrow

Children are not only witnesses to domestic abuse between spouses. Children may be directly abused by an abusive parent eg narcissistic parent and parental bullying of children. Children can also abuse parents - parental abuse by children.--Penbat (talk) 11:35, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
