Name edit

shirt name relatively means nothing. In 2009 for Brazil as D Alves and Dani Alves for Barcelona may just possibly not enough space. Please provide an article that he preferred Dani instead of Daniel, as media widely use Daniel Alves. Matthew_hk tc 11:19, 25 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

International Career edit

The sentence "Despite being the most expensive right-back in history, he has been able to hold down a regular starting spot in the national team without Maicon being the second choice when available." does not entirely make sense to me. I think it should probably read "Despite being the most expensive right-back in history, he has not been able to hold down a regular starting spot in the national team, with Maicon being the first choice when available.", but I'm not confident enough of the fact to make the change. Can someone verify? Dybeck (talk) 21:47, 26 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Picture edit

Good night , you can change the picture alves has the article ?, also the fc barcelona should be changed because of poor quality and having the selection of Brazil. Alves has better photos with fc barcelona and Brazil. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.150.34.113 (talkcontribs)

please , it's time to change the picture in the article by dani alves , now !, the photos must be updated for recent photos . — Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.150.34.113 (talkcontribs)

Do you have any good picture that we can add? You can not tell others what to do if there are no pictures. Also we can not just add anything because a lot of images are copyrighted so we can not just take any image we find and add it. Also articles are about the content and information and not only about images. QED237 (talk) 00:17, 24 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Not trying to sound aggressive, is that just these pictures of 'content' Alves are old now only suggest, sorry if I spent that these pictures are changed, are you your the editor of this article ?, If you're not I suggest you do not meddle, if you are, I ask you to please add more new photos, the content is good, just missing photos to improve quality article you understand or not? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.150.34.113 (talkcontribs)

I understand, the question is if you are? Articles are not edited by only one person, many people edit them and I am one of wikipedia editor editing many articles. There is no "editor of this article", there are many editors on wikipedia editing the article they want to edit. And I must ask you again, you say you want new photos, what photos? There are no photos to add. Do you have any photos we can add? We can not just google and take any image we like because of copyright rules, the photographer owns the right of their images. There are a lot of rules about images and it is not just to add just beacuse someone wants new images. QED237 (talk) 12:23, 24 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Seven titles in one calendar year edit

To my knowledge and I've researched it thoroughly, Dani Alves is the only player to win seven titles in one year, doing so in 2009. He won the sextuplet with Barcelona and the Confederations Cup with Brazil. Should we make a note of that somewhere? La Fuzion (K lo K) 16:15, 25 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Inconsistencies w.r.t the nunber of trophies throughout the page edit

The number of trophies Dani Alves has won is inconsistent throughout the page:

  • In the introduction, the number is 41 (likely it's not been updated in a while).
  • In the honours, the number is 42 (37 + 5). Note that only 1 Copa do Nordeste (Northeast Cup) is counted in this total (the 2002 one).
  • If he has won the Copa do Nordeste (Northeast Cup) both in 2001 and 2002, as stated in the Club Career section, the actucal number should be 43.

This source seems to comfirm the correct number is 43.

I'll leave this discussion here for a few days. Then, if no better alternative arises, I'll update the page according to the aforementioned source.2A00:23C5:3408:4101:6D53:BBAC:E13A:2210 (talk) 20:42, 12 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Eduardo2024 Alves was part of the main squad on that season, but was just for the mere fact of not being that day for being injured does not mean that he that title is not on his honours, that is why Alves is listed with 44 titles in sources. Moreover, youth titles are not senior titles, but they are official titles. FCBWanderer (talk) 17:30, 14 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Eduardo2024 Messi WAS NOT part of the main squad, he entered officially in the main squad in mid season. And why do you say CR has 35? Which are the controversial titles that we do not count him?--FCBWanderer (talk) 12:58, 15 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@FCBWanderer according to you or your sources how many titles does CR has? Eduardo2024 (talk) 14:39, 15 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Eduardo2024 It depends who you ask, while Manchester United doesn't recognised the 2008 Community Shield, FIFA might do it as they recognised the 2018 French Supercup for Alves despite being injured. On the other hand, Barcelona recognises on his webpage that Messi won 2005 Supercopa de España without even playing or being in the main squad. Who do we have to believe? FIFA or the clubs?--FCBWanderer (talk) 15:14, 15 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Ok where is the source where FIFA recognized the 2018 French Supercup of Alves? Eduardo2024 (talk) 15:19, 15 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Here FIFA recognises 43 titles a month before the Olympics.[1] On one hand, it is unfair to count this title to Alves but not 2008 Community Shield for CR7, but if FIFA says otherwise idk what should be the procedure. Also he have on the wiki that Messi won 34 titles with Barcelona while the club says otherwise.[2] Even though Messi clearly should not be counted that title.--FCBWanderer (talk) 15:31, 15 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Real Madrid's official website also recognize the 2016 UEFA super cup of CR's, Ronaldo was in the squad of 2016-17 of Real Madrid, I see no reason why it was omitted from honours list. Eduardo2024 (talk) 15:34, 15 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I think Wikipedia position should be put the titles recognised by the clubs, even though it can be sometimes illogical. Otherwise it is very difficult to measure the titles. If Cristiano was injured in 2016 Supercup and 2008 Community Shield but Real Madrid counts it and Man United not, we should go on that way. What do you think.--FCBWanderer (talk) 16:04, 15 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
We should add them IMHO, If a player was a part of the season squad(Messi's case is different because as you said he joined them midseason, Barca won the cup before he joined them) then I don't think we should not add them. We need consensus and must follow a universal rule for neutrality. But I see editors are doing edit warring without making any valuable discussions. It may be irrelevant but I think this website did a great job to manage this. They added the titles but with a * mark providing additional information. It is not just only limited to FIFA or Club's official website but also it is extended to popular sports medias where stats are different. Eduardo2024 (talk) 16:47, 15 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
The thing is that using a neutral guideline carries on contradicting official club's statements. Putting a note does not really helps because we have to decide whether or not to sum this title to the total. As Wikipedia relies on sources, the most simple thing is to use the club sources. For example Man City page doesn’t count Cancelo the UCL even though he played 6 matches. FCBWanderer (talk) 21:21, 15 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Please update the CR's honours list also as RM clearly mentioned about him winning the super cup three times. Eduardo2024 (talk) 21:58, 15 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

August 2023 edit

NextEditor123, I can't find the specific thread where consensus was achieved from the link given by you. Anyway, If you don't count Supercopa de España 2005 , Messi has 34 titles with Barcelona, 3 with PSG, 3 with Argentina at Senior level; How did he get 43 senior titles then? You have continued to engage in WP:EDITWAR, ignoring the warning. You should revert yourself, and clarify your edits here in talk page first. Thanks. CharlesWain (talk) 16:17, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

You forgot recent Leagues Cup and youth titles (2005 FIFA World Youth Championship and 2008 Summer Olympics). Look at second thread of the archive article with the title "Re-posting this because it was archived but it wasn't entirely finalised and I want this debate to come to a final and definitive conclusion so that we can avoid anymore future issues regarding players' honours".
Are you blind or dumb? NextEditor123 (talk) 16:26, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I haven't forgot anything. 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship and 2008 Summer Olympics aren't senior titles! Hence, I removed the 43 senior titles part per WP:IAI.
You could just mention title of the specific thread or give me the specific link , instead of personal attack.CharlesWain (talk) 16:55, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
When people talk about player's trophies in news articles, they always include trophies from youth competitions. The named accomplishments are considered senior titles by FIFA and IOC. NextEditor123 (talk) 17:08, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
"When people talk about player's trophies in news articles, they always include trophies from youth competitions." - Yes, they do and they are counting 44 official titles in Messi's professional career. If you don't count 2005 super cup, it's 43 titles. There may be different criteria for counting trophies, but I haven't seen any news report saying youth titles ( including FIFA World youth championship) are senior titles! Thanks. CharlesWain (talk) 17:34, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@CharlesWain IMO those are not senior trophies. Eduardo2024 (talk) 17:49, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Tell that to news articles. NextEditor123 (talk) 17:57, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
We follow consensus on WP. By your logic Messi has 44 trophies according to news articles. Eduardo2024 (talk) 17:59, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I repeat: "What matters the most is that information for Wikipedia articles should match with a consensus of the website and reliable sources". If we don't use reliable sources (along with a consensus), giving the amount there would be considered WP:NOR. NextEditor123 (talk) 18:05, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I don't think that news articles make up the trophies in thin air. What matters the most is that information for Wikipedia articles should match with a consensus of the website and reliable sources. Both are presented there. If you are still not sure, you can ignore youth trophies but you will get 41 trophies each for Dani Alves and Lionel Messi. NextEditor123 (talk) 17:53, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes, they both have 41 senior titles. In addition Ronaldo has 33. Eduardo2024 (talk) 17:56, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
How does this topic concern Cristiano Ronaldo? NextEditor123 (talk) 18:11, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Maybe relevant for neutrality and upcoming edits thats why I said "In addition". Eduardo2024 (talk) 18:58, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Do not worry about it. I do not have any bias for both of them. NextEditor123 (talk) 19:01, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Alves has 43 senior titles + 1 youth title. Messi has 42 senior titles + 2 youth titles. Total official titles are taken into account to describe who is the most decorated footballer. If we don't count super cups where the players haven't played, Messi and Alves both have 43 official titles. Footnote should be given. CharlesWain (talk) 18:50, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
The Summer Olympic title of Alves may not be a senior trophy. Eduardo2024 (talk) 18:56, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Summer Olympics in 2020 was also youth competition. But it allows including 3 players with age higher than 23 for every team's squads. The rule was used since Summer Olympics in 1996. NextEditor123 (talk) 19:09, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I have changed "senior titles" to "official titles". I think we should give a note explaining why we are not counting the 2005 super cup, since all the news reports are crediting Messi with 44 titles. Thanks.CharlesWain (talk) 05:08, 22 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

It says he played a Copa del Rey Game for Sevilla in his 1st season, which he didn't. I myself can't edit this page though. All these sources have the data for the 4 CdR games Sevilla had in 02/03 and he appears in none of them. If you check his league games he firstly played for them in late February, so it seems unlikely anyway, that he played in any of these January cup games.

Change “Alves is the most decorated player in the history of professional football, with 43 senior titles.” to “Alves is the second most decorated player in the history of professional football, with 43 senior titles, 1 short of his former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi”.

Change "Barcelona" to "FC Barcelona"

There is a section that says -

Alves' lawyer said that she would appeal against the verdict.[143] After the sentence, Barcelona retired him from the "Leyend" section.[144] However, the club would reinstate his likeness on the website days later.[145]

From this text it wasn't clear to me who "Barcelona" referred to, and I thought it was the city, and the city retired him. I think it should say "FC Barcelona" as it refers to the football club. This isn't obvious to me. Handa.vishesh (talk) 22:36, 9 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

  Not done: It's pretty clear in context. (See WP:CONTEXT) '''[[User:CanonNi]]''' (talk|contribs) 13:34, 7 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
