Skeptical

I'm a little skeptical. Four references. None proven reliable? All from the same original source.

It could be that one guy photoshopped stuff in 2020, and a few gullible sources picked it up without verifying. Has any actual journalism picked it up? McKay (talk) 14:43, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

There are photos and articles all over the internet of this technique. Just because it looks fantastical doesn't mean it is fake. One could easily argue the same about bonsai, except the tradition is much more widespread. Here are two (of many) links. Coppice vs Pollard

I changed the description to say it is similar to European pollarding, from coppicing. Coppicing consists of cutting close to the ground,producing a lot of small branches, while in pollarding trees are cut further off the ground and has been historically used to create firewood and small logs.
