Christopher Wilder, responsible for 3 more disappearances?

According to the website the Charley Project (www.charleyproject.org), Christopher Wilder "has been linked to at least a dozen disappearances, rapes, murders and/or attacks of women in the early to mid-1980s, including the disappearances of Mary Opitz, Colleen Orsborn, Rosario Gonzales, and Tammy Leppert." Of the listed names, only Rosario Gonzales was mentioned in the main article, and this quote was taken from the page on also-mentioned Elizabeth Kenyon ( http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/k/kenyon_elizabeth.html ), so that means there is no mention in the article of Wilder's being linked to the disappearances of Mary Opitz, Colleen Orsborn, and Tammy Leppert. Mind you, the link between Wilder and Leppert seems tenuous when reading up on Leppert's case ( http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/l/leppert_tammy.html ), but his involvement *is* a possibility. FBI Collector

His favorite novel The Collector, has been sent to the FBI so they can search his home for Gonzalez and Keyton.

Quick-fail

I have unfortunately quick-failed the GAN for this article. Here are the reasons why:

1. The article didn't satisfy the first basic problem listed in Wikipedia:Reviewing good articles: The article completely lacks reliable sources – see Wikipedia:Verifiability. The problem isn't that the sources aren't reliable, though; it's that they're formatted incorrectly. Please see Wikipedia:Citation templates for how to format your sources.

2. Point #1 of good article criteria. The lead is too short. There are prose problems all throughout the article. For example, the very first line: Wilder was born in Australia. Where in Australia? You go on to cite some of Wilder's childhood traumatic experiences. You seem to insinuate that these traumas contributed to his antisocial behavior, but that's not clear. This case is so notorious, so I wouldn't be surprised if some forensic psychologist made that claim somewhere. I had questions like that pop up all throughout my reading of this article. I saw one weird broken wikilink: On March 18, he lured 21-year old Terry Ferguson away from a shopping center inrosemount, Minnesota|Satellite Beach]... That definitely needs to be fixed.

3. Point #6: Images. There is just one image in this article, in the infobox. You need to work on getting more images, even if they're just pictures of the places in question. A map showing the locations of the murders might be a good idea.

There are other issues with this article, enough that I thought it was too much to continue the GAN. I suggest that before re-submitting this article for GA, that you have it copyedited and/or peer reviewed. I learned, after a pretty spectacular GA-fail of my own, that getting some input from other editors before going through a GAN is a good idea. What does other serial killer GAs and FAs look like? I also suggest that you go to editors in the Serial Killers Task Force for input. Good luck. Wilder is a fascinating subject, and his article has lots of potential. I disagree with your quick fail of the article. There are plenty of reliable sources, and formatting is not a quick fail criteria because it can be easily resolved. Secondly, the lead. Again, this is not a quick fail criteria, and can be resolved fairly easily during the review. Finally, you cite the lack of images as a reason for failure. The criteria says "The presence of images is not, in itself, a requirement", only that their copyright status is OK. The rationale would be reasonable if you had given images that would be useful but were not used.

I would suggest the original nominator add this back to WP:GAN asking for a second opinion (re-add the entry, the template notifying everyone that Cristine is reviewing the article, and {{GAReview}}). Cheers, Mm40 (talk) 14:19, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

I guess so. I think we can let the matter drop, then. If someone else wants to commit themselves to improving this article, they can do so and resubmit for GAN. Actually, my point in the above, and my main reason for quick-failing the article, was that there were too many issues to resolve quickly. The prose alone was reason enough, and from the history and talk page, it wasn't apparent that the nominator had been working on it much. With Judo112's ban, he probably would've have had the opportunity, anyway. At least there's one less article in the large GAN backlog. --Christine (talk) 16:04, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Additional advice

Moors murders is an example of a Featured article concerning serial killing: hopefully analysis of this and other pages could benefit this article. Rubbish computer 01:15, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

As with this topic, not all the facts are known, yet Moors murders has reached FA and I therefore feel would be particularly useful for analysing this. The Moors murders article strikes me as having a complete lack of original research, extending to the word 'again' not being used when something happened in the same way for another time. Potential Improvements

Hello fellow Wikipedians!

I am enrolled in a Technical Editing class at Texas A&M University and as part of my coursework I will be trying to make a few improvements to this article. I am hoping that my potential contributions, along with your welcomed suggestions and modifications, will help us get one step closer to turning this into an A-Class piece! I have put a lot of thought, as I am sure many of you have also, into how this article can read in a more clear, organized, and neutral way. Here are some potential considerations:

• I noticed that some of the content contains phrasing that could be rewritten so that it achieves a more neutral point of view. There seems to be some depth of detail provided, especially in the description of the capturing of victims, which might be considered undue weight. (WP:NPOV) I could really use some thoughts on this.

• The "Murder spree" could possibly be organized differently so that it matches that of other serial killer wikipedia articles. I am considering incorporating a confirmed victims sections to help distinguish his victims more easily. Or does anyone think there is a better way to do this? Let me know!

• The "Other possible victims" section could perhaps read more clearly by restating the way in which Wilder is potentially connected to each victim. If someone knows of a good article to reference, do share!

Adding In Popular Culture Section

Hello editors,

It has come to my attention that some of the existent content in the article regarding Wilder's legacy could be better organized if we were to place it in a "In Popular Culture" section (WP:IPC). This could allow wikipedia users to rapidly identify the information while navigating the page. For example, the film listed as "Easy Prey" could be moved to this new section. However, I am wondering if anybody knows of any reliable references that further collaborate that the film is based on Wilder's story?
