WikiProject COVID-19

I've created WikiProject COVID-19 as a temporary or permanent WikiProject and invite editors to use this space for discussing ways to improve coverage of the ongoing 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic. Please bring your ideas to the project/talk page. Stay safe, ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:51, 15 March 2020 (UTC)

Listing all Counties in TN

From CAWylie’s talk page, concerning this removal:

Dear CA Wiley

I started this table 2 some days ago.(was not logged in).

I think you may have deleted the addition of populations of ALL TN counties.

It is correct that these 'unreported' counties have 0 confirmed cases.

Important for all residents of TN to be able to quickly look up the number of regional cases. Also need to understand the regional density of cases. That is why I added the county population column.

Could you please reinstate the county population columns. We need some data for all counties. I have been adding them day by day and it is much harder to update.

Dr. Williams, as stated in my edit summary: [Adding] population unnecessary. It would be different if thousands were affected/dying daily. As for “regional density”, the color map at the top of the page gives that, as well as the “spread” across the state, or current lack, thereof. No other state article has a population column, nor columns with 0 cases listed. Furthermore, if any page visitor wishes to see county populations, those counties given are one click away. Wyliepedia @ 16:47, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
CAWylie, I don't think population column is necessary. Not seen in similar tables on other pandemic articles. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:05, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. It I understand correctly, your aim is uniformity of format across all states. That is a great goal.
In my opinion the user needs a way to be able to sort counties and regions by intensity of infection. This can highlight counties that are marked outliers.
While you are right that the small state maps at the top does provide rough data on intensity, they are
1. hard to read and unlabeled by county
2. not quantitative
3. not sortable
4. Not easily exported to Excel or stats programs for day-by-day county wide epidemiological analysis which I would like to do for the state of TN.
Table 2 is a sortable table which makes it possible to sort by case load and by population (provided we have a Pop column).
Are you responsible for all pandemic pages? I so then could I suggest adding the Pop column to ALL of these pages.
I believe that I started this particular table, and have definitely been maintaining it every day circa 3 PM (along with much else on this page). If you want help, I am prepared to continue to perform this function. If you don't want more useful data on this page I am also prepared to leave it to you and others. Robert W. If you want to propose changes across COVID-19 pages in general, considering asking for feedback at Wikipedia:WikiProject COVID-19. Consistency across related pages is a good thing. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:29, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
And Wwnws98 added that particular table first and is a regular contributor to COVIN-19 articles, most of which use the standard confirmed cases table format. Wyliepedia @ 17:34, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
Agree with Another Believer in this case. If we do want to add population totals to all tables in the country (or beyond), it should be discussed on the main talk page. I created the table on this page to be consistent with other articles when this pandemic first began and to help organize the numbers in a county-by-county listing so people knew where the highest totals were. In my opinion, however, I don't know how necessary population would be in the table. Maps help show where the clusters of cases are located (and TN's map is color-coded to where the highest cases are with a clearly labeled legend). I think most residents would be able to gauge the density of cases by looking at the map compared to listing populations of each county. I see the point in organizing by region, but even then those boundaries are still hard to define - even in smaller states - and can cause more confusion. I think leaving it the way it is may be the best way forward until more discussion is had and a consensus can be reached. Thanks for tagging me CAWylie. Wwnws98 (talk) 20:03, 24 March 2020 (UTC)

Cumulative Deaths

Right now the death column looks strange with just zeros and ones. It would be more beneficial to have all the deaths up until that point listed on a given day, like how on the TN Department of Health website fatalities are cumulative. It is still easy to find when deaths occurred by seeing when the numbers change. Leviavery (talk) 20:02, 25 March 2020 (UTC)

Redundancies

Aren’t the chart here and the first graph here redundant with each other? They both give the same information. Wyliepedia @ 01:35, 11 April 2020 (UTC)

There is some redundancy, but it's also been a consistent pattern on many of the state and country pandemic pages to include both presentations of the data. DesignOne (talk) 03:31, 15 April 2020 (UTC)

New tests per day

As of April 27th, the state website is now providing new Tests per day numbers. DesignOne (talk) 00:14, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

While not explicitly defined by the Department of Health, this number is calculated by subtracting the previous day's total test count from today's total test count. DesignOne (talk) 03:39, 15 April 2020 (UTC)

COVID-19 pandemic in Nashville, Tennessee

Hello Wikipedians, So the largest city in the American state of Tennessee is Nashville and also the state capital of Tennessee, previously the city of Memphis, Tennessee is no longer the largest city in the state. I hope anyone will create article titled COVID-19 pandemic in Nashville, Tennessee, The proposed article will be titled as title COVID-19 pandemic in Nashville, Tennessee will be focused on the pandemic within the city of Nashville, Tennessee. The propose article will include how many active cases, how many deaths, how many recoveries and how many overall cases within the city of Nashville, Tennessee. I will by happy for anyone's reply for the requested article to created and will be only focused on the city of Nashville, Tennessee. Thanks for your time. Come back if the propose article is created. See you later. 2001:569:74D2:A800:597:7665:7DAB:5D7F (talk) 03:29, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

Hello. While the counties containing the two largest cities in the state currently compose half of the case numbers, I had thought about it a few weeks back. I changed my mind simply because it would just be a numbers dump, as I wouldn’t have the time to fully flesh out the Nashville article. Currently, there are only 1300 active cases in Nashville, so researching the pandemic history of the city would be an undertaking. That said, there aren't that many major US cities that have such articles, judging by the Category:2020 coronavirus pandemic in the United States by city. The state articles I monitor are hardly maintained and/or updated anyway. Wyliepedia @ 06:41, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
If you want the current numbers for Nashville (since I'm not sure there would be much else in the proposed article), you can look for Davidson County in the counties chart on this page, since Nashville and Davidson County have a Consolidated city-county government. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Leviavery (talkcontribs) 20:16, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
I don't think it would rename by county, there is a category titled Category:COVID-19 pandemic in the United States by city. So Nashville, Tennessee will be one of the articles to be added will fit the "COVID-19 pandemic in the United States by city" category. 2001:569:74D2:A800:597:7665:7DAB:5D7F (talk) 07:29, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
There are also numerous other city COVID articles created, but they redirect to the states they're in, due to lack of content. Wyliepedia @ 09:02, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

The coloring for the >5000 cases is white instead of its usual dark maroon-ish color.

Hi,

So I noticed that the coloring for >5,000 cases is white instead of its usual color it should be (i.e. a very dark maroon-ish color). Could someone please fix the coloring for that box? Thank you. 69.246.122.149 (talk) 14:18, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

It's the right color on my browser; I'm not sure what would be making it different on yours. Leviavery (talk) 15:50, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
Wait, it is the right color on Google Chrome, but it is not on Microsoft Edge. Perhaps we were on different web browsers. 69.246.122.149 (talk) 15:58, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

Malformed graphs

Moving the malformed graphs here. I'm not proficient enough nor is my time efficient to fix this bunched-up look, which is due to the widths. However, if made wider, they extend past the page.

Wyliepedia @ 08:35, 15 July 2020 (UTC)

It's probably not ideal, but I split each graph into two, with the second one starting on June 1. Leviavery (talk) 18:16, 15 July 2020 (UTC)

"Poor statement"?

HongKongGutsu diff I am no native speaker. Since the COVID-19-Pandemic in the United States has started, the race I have added was the largest (in terms of participants). I am fine with changes on my edit, but a revert ... ? pls. reconsider. --Präziser (talk) 13:24, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

It was restored until I removed it again. I also don't understand the "poor statement" edit summary. However, neither the number of attendees nor the precautions are mentioned in the source. Wyliepedia @ 18:11, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

Table for counties’ support/opposition to Governor Lee’s mask mandate?

With each counties having varying inputs on the matter regarding the mask mandate executive order imposed by Bill Lee on July 3, I believe it would beneficial to create a table on the counties that support enforcing the mask mandate, those that oppose it, and and those that are still undecided.

It is a better solution than having a list or paragraph of the counties and their inputs on the matter. AppalachianCentrist (talk) 20:02, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

Or maybe a table with just the counties that enforce the mask mandate, as it would probably be hard to decide whether a county is opposed or undecided. (Like my county, Roane County, does not enforce mask wearing, but I don't know wether to call it opposed or undecided.) Leviavery (talk) 21:02, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
