Do we need this article? edit

Is there anything really remarkable about the events detailed here? Bombing raids by the RAAF against Rabaul were frequent in 1942-45. There is nothing to suggest that those in March 1942 were especially large. I'm inclined to recommend this article for deletion Grant | Talk 11:04, 18 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I agree. Though I am not for deleting good information. I say it should be merged somewhere. Into the Battle of Rabaul would be probably the best location. Nomadtales 23:14, 18 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ah, found a similar article which has more meat but a poor title: American New Guinea Strikes (1942). I suggest it be merged in here. Grant | Talk 01:32, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Agree. Nice one. Perhaps a title change is in order too, can you think of a good one? And can this then be included as part of the New Guinea Campaign battlebox somehow? Nomadtales 06:39, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think "Bombing of Rabaul (March 1942)" is the best title and in keeping with military history project style, which is why I suggested the merge should be here, even though the other article is more complete. Grant | Talk 10:19, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
The USN raid on Rabaul is definetely notable - I believe that this was the USN carrier force's first offensive action of the war and a lot of important lessons were learned. The Australian harrasment of Rabaul in 1942 probably isn't notable by itself and should be merged into the article on the carrier raid to provide context. --Nick Dowling 11:11, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
