Requested move edit

I suggest renaming and moving this article to "Blue Bonnets". Why? The facility has gone bankrupted and expected to permanently close in the very near future. Meaning, this article will be about the history of a defunct race track rather than an operational one, so with that in mind, should it be referred to as "Hippodrome de Montréal" (1995-2008--a name that lasted for mere 12 years), or "Blue Bonnets" (1872-1995--a name that lasted for almost 125 years)?

Even now the media still refer to it as Blue Bonnets, as do most Montrealers and people from outside the province and country. There obviously needs to be a mention the name was changed to Hippodrome in the article, and a redirect, but it makes better sense to have this article under the facility's original and long term name at this point. If it were still in operation I would probably not make a move request.--Apple2gs (talk) 18:00, 9 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I oppose the requested move. While I am of a generation that does still think of it as Blue Bonnets, a quick Google search reveals that Hippodrome is now commonly used in the Montreal Gazette. Best to leave it as is. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 17:28, 23 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Actually I've seen the "Blue Bonnets" name used equally, if not more, by the Montreal Gazette. Here are some recent examples:
http://www.montrealgazette.com/entertainment/announce+venue+Montreal+Monday/2219214/story.html
http://www.montrealgazette.com/Ponies+pasture/2104558/story.html
Blue Bonnets (aka Hippodrome de Montreal) is permanently out of business, and what remains will be torn down within a year or so. So we're now looking at the history of a 137 year old institute that only in it's last 12 years had a name change (with people, books and newspapers still referring to it by it's original name). The ONLY reason the name change took place was political, the PQ's on going effort to erase all traces of English history from Quebec. I don't see why that hatred should be further validated now that the business is now gone. There should definitely be a redirect from "Hippodrome de Montreal" and mention in the article it was giving this name between 1995 and 2008, but that's it. It's now an article about a defunct racetrack. Apple2gs (talk) 23:08, 23 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
If you Google news search "Hippodrome de Montréal" you'll also find two recent Gazette hits for that name. But look, if you feel strongly about the rename, I won't oppose it. As long as there's a redirect I for one don't mind. Your point about the 137 history carries a lot of weight, at least for me. best, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 15:07, 24 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Need some assistance here. I tried to do a move to "Blue Bonnets Raceway" but since that article already exists (as a redirect) I get an error message with a mention to contact the administrators. I did attempt to add it to listing (in a article used for renaming requests) but it looks like it was removed or ignored. Hmm, looks like the article was originally created under "Blue Bonnets Raceway" but someone moved it to "Hippodrome de Montreal" (same thing happened with the Olympic Stadium, though that was corrected). I don't want to just copy and past the article or the history and discussions will be lost. Any ideas how to go about this? Apple2gs (talk) 17:03, 15 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sorely lacking in content edit

This was once a major horse racing facility in North America in both Thoroughbred flat racing and Harness racing. There is much info available in the Daily Racing Form archives and other publications. Please help. 10:11, 7 November 2021 (UTC) Stretchrunner II (talk)
