Is this a valid subject for Wikipedia? edit

I am the author of this article, and I believe that this is a valid subject. Beerenberg is a serious business with an interesting history. However, I also believe the article needs further expansion over time. I would be grateful for assistance in that respect. Fitzpatrickjm 23:43, 28 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Having a think about the PROD I placed on the article, I may have been a little hasty. I am still concerned, however, that the article has no independent sources (the official website is not an independent source) and does not (at this stage) meet WP:CORP. My first thought was this was a small scale local producer but now I think about it further I have seen the little sachets of jam at various motels, hotels, restaurants etc. I do think this has a good chance of meeting WP:CORP in the future and withdraw the PROD. I will tag the article as needing better referencing. Cheers, Mattinbgn/ talk 00:19, 29 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your note. I believe that Beerenberg's story and the scale of their business makes them sufficiently relevant for a Wikipedia article. Possibly someone else can help "fill out" the story with more information. Regards Fitzpatrickjm 12:33, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
The issue with trying to get info, references and articles relating to this subject, by doing a news search, most of the articles are only avaliable by subscription from the various news/media outlets. --Mikecraig 00:05, 13 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Beerenberglogo.gif edit

Image:Beerenberglogo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Why is a Dutch name a reference to German heritage? edit

It seems unlikely that a Dutch name would be a "reference to [...] German heritage." Beerenberg is chiefly the name of a Norwegian volcano named by Dutch sailors. Vanasan (talk) 20:20, 21 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

I removed this uncited claim. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 20:59, 21 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Photos edit

At the time of my writing this, the article has no photos, but I believe someone is arranging for some to be made available. The photos I would like to see in this article are:

  • A wide shot of the strawberry vineyards in the infobox
  • The barn mentioned in the second paragraph of "History" annotating the history section
  • A collection of miniature jars - preferably showing a pile, not necessarily all neatly arranged with the whole labels visible. Ideally showing the range of colours of the jams inside.
  • A photo inside the factory or bottling facility

@Shaunawatt: are these possible for you to take or get released with Commons-compatible licences? Thanks. --Scott Davis Talk 21:21, 8 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Shaunawatt (talk) Scott Davis I have indeed submitted photos for approval as the copyright terms on the pictures are not clear for immediate publication. Some are taken for the company as part of our marketing collateral and others by members of the family who still own and run the business. I am hoping for a positive outcome in the coming weeks. The only shot you have requested that I do not have is in the inside of the factory, our new factory will be running as of mid-2018 so I will try to get some shots of that to add to the page once we are producing in there. Thanks for your interest. —Preceding undated comment added 22:07, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

Shaunawatt (talk) would like to add the following photo to the Beereneberg Farm page, this photo is of the Paech family founders and owners o the business https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Paech_Family,_Beerenberg_Farm,_Australia.jpg. I would also like to add the following shot of the Beerenberg mini-jars https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Beerenberg_Miniatures.jpg. Could OTR's provide permission for these additions. There are more photos on Beernberg Farm Wiki COmmons that I would like to add but I am waiting permission on the licensing that has been submitted to OTRS. —Preceding undated comment added 23:21, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

Thank you Shaunawatt. I have added three of the photos you got released to the article. Would there be a chance of getting a photo like [1] (particularly the foreground bins of small jars) to replace the one that is dominated by the platter? --Scott Davis Talk 10:39, 24 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Shaunawatt (talk) Scott Davis Thank you for adding these photographs.

Shaunawatt - I would now like to add the following photos to this page - are there any objections from anyone? https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?search=beerenberg+farm&title=Special:Search&go=Go&searchToken=efo80ctktkssk3tr1dpjknrjd#/media/File:Beerenberg_Farm_Shop.jpg https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?search=beerenberg+farm&title=Special:Search&go=Go&searchToken=efo80ctktkssk3tr1dpjknrjd#/media/File:Beerenberg_Farm_Shop_Insie.jpg https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?search=beerenberg+farm&title=Special:Search&go=Go&searchToken=efo80ctktkssk3tr1dpjknrjd#/media/File:Paech_Family,_Beerenberg_Farm,_Australia.jpg https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?search=beerenberg+farm&title=Special:Search&go=Go&searchToken=efo80ctktkssk3tr1dpjknrjd#/media/File:Peek-a-Boo_Sign_Beerenberg.jpg https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?search=beerenberg+farm&title=Special:Search&go=Go&searchToken=efo80ctktkssk3tr1dpjknrjd#/media/File:A_Taste_of_Beerenburg.jpg — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shaunawatt (talkcontribs) 05:49, 26 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Shaunawatt: most of those photos look more like marketing than information. A Wikipedia article is about the business and brandname, not the "visitor exerience". That might be appropriate on Wikivoyage (I'm not familiar enough with its policies and conventions to be sure), but not Wikipedia. The peek-a-boo sign has nothing to do with the business, for example, and the platter photos are mostly about coming for lunch, as most of the products in the photo are not Beerenberg ones (as far as I know - I only buy products from the supermarket and haven't been to the shop itself for a long time). Thank you for getting the photos cleared for publishing on Commons, so they can be used in any Wikimedia projects or pages where they turn out to be appropriate. A platter photo could be great on Platter (dinner) if it had enough prose to justify the two pictures already there.
Can you be specific about which text in this article would be enhanced by which image, noting the policy guidance at Wikipedia:Image use policy#Image content and Wikipedia:Image dos and don'ts (particularly "Don't overload articles with images")? --Scott Davis Talk 13:24, 26 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
@ScottDavis: OK what about adding https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?search=beerenberg+farm&title=Special:Search&go=Go&searchToken=efo80ctktkssk3tr1dpjknrjd#/media/File:Paech_Family,_Beerenberg_Farm,_Australia.jpg as shot of the family who own and still run the business to the history section. Also adding https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?search=beerenberg+farm&title=Special:Search&go=Go&searchToken=efo80ctktkssk3tr1dpjknrjd#/media/File:Beerenberg_Farm_Shop.jpg to the tourist attraction section showing the outside of the farm shop mentioned in the text? Shaunawatt (talk) 21:58, 26 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Shaunawatt: Yes, that sounds fair. Are you able to add a bit more about the history of the farm(ers) and the transition from dairy to market garden and from Grant and Carol to the current generation? There seem to be a few long newspaper stories online that can be used as references, such as [2][3]. I haven't found a reference for the heritage listing of the barn - offline things that can be seen at the National Trust or State Library are fine. Also, just about every male German immigrant had the first name Johann, he needs a middle name - both Johann Georg and Johann Friedrich were on the Zebra and settled in Hahndorf[4]. --Scott Davis Talk 00:35, 27 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

@ScottDavis: I have made those changes and added the pictures we discussed. The name I have for Johann is George but this may be a spelling error as the Germans usually spell it without the 'e'. There are no doubt more external references that can be used and I plan to spend some time working on this over the coming months. The Barn listing is now referenced with a link to the heritage register. [[User:Shaunawatt|Shaunawatt] —Preceding undated comment added 02:51, 27 February 2018 (UTC)

Looking good - thank you. --Scott Davis Talk 06:01, 27 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

production upgrade edit

I would like to add the following to the Beerenberg Farm page, seeking approval as I am an employee. In June 2018 Beerenberg Farm completed an upgrade to its manufacturing facility and head office. The expanded factory includes two new kettles imported from the United Kingdom. It doubled the production capacity with better quality control. I will also reference a couple of media articles around the expansion Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page). https://www.stockjournal.com.au/story/5451570/beerenberg-opens-doors-to-expansion-completion/, http://theleadsouthaustralia.com.au/industries/manufacturing/beerenberg-opens-new-headquarters-expanded-production-line/.
