Second or Third Largest?

The 14 July 2011 change indicates that Baker Hughes is the second largest oilfield services company (the previous version said third largest)... but it still says that it's behind Schlumberger and Halliburton. So something is incorrect. Claude (talk) 00:32, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Merger proposal

I propose that Baker Hughes INTEQ and Hughes Christensen be merged into Baker Hughes. Both pages refer to divisions of the company Baker Hughes and are not separate companies, therefore it would be more appropriate to include the information in these two articles within the main Baker Hughes article. Any history pertaining to the formation of these divisions is already located in separate articles concerning lecacy companies, such as Hughes Tool Company, or within the main Baker Hughes article. 20:45, 23 August 2014‎ (UTC)

New logo for BHGE

Since the merger with General Electric in 2017, the resulting company (Baker Hughes, a GE company) is using a new logo, as seen on their website. Proposed additions

Hi all

I've been asked to update the Baker Hughes page under a conflict of interest, so I'm following the suggestions listed out here: WP:SCOIC.

I've been over the page and I believe that there are a fair few additions that would bring the information on this topic more up to date:

• Under the 'Acquisitions' subsection within 'History', add section 'Nova Technology Corporation' with the body 'In February, 2006, Baker Hughes acquired Nova Technology Corporation. Nova Technology Corporation are a supplier of permanent monitoring, chemical injection systems, and multi-line services for deepwater and subsea oil and gas well applications.

• Under the 'Acquisitions' subsection within 'History', add section 'JOA Oil and Gas BV' with the body 'In October 2010, Baker Hughes acquired JOA Oil & Gas BV. JOA have developed JewelSuite, a reservoir modelling sofware for fields with complex geologies.

• Under the 'Acquisitions' subsection within 'History', add section 'Compact Carbon Capture (3C)' with the body 'In November 2020, Baker Hughes acquired the company Compact Carbon Capture (3C), a company developing solvent based carbon capture patents.'

• Under the 'Acquisitions' subsection within 'History', add subsection 'SRI International' with the body 'In March 2021 Baker Hughes acquired from SRI International an exclusive license for the use of Mixed Salt Process technology for carbon capture applications on flue gases from power plants, gas turbines, and industrial applications such as steel and cement.'

• Under the 'Acquisitions' subsection within 'History', add subsection 'ARMS Reliability' with the body 'In February 2021, Baker Hughes announced it is acquiring ARMS Reliability, a company providing advisory services and software to the mining, oil and gas, utilities, manufacturing, chemical, and transport sectors.

I think the above are quite specific edits that simply update the article with more information relevant to those searching out the company on Wikipedia, and in keeping with the current format of the article - please let me know what you think.

As well as these specifics, I think it may be worth adding a new section for significant activities from 2019 onwards:

• In 2021, they announced an intention to create a JV with Akastor ASA to combine Baker Hughes' subsea drilling services unit with Akastor’s wholly owned subsidiary, MHWirth AS, a drilling service company.

• In July 2019, they created a JV with Aramco to create a new non-metallic materials company called Novel Non-Metallic Solutions Manufacturing (Novel). Novel’s facility is being developed at King Salman Energy Park (SPARK), in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province. The facility will initially produce onshore non-metallic pipelines such as reinforced thermoplastic pipes (RTP) from composite materials .

• In 2021, they became investors in the FiveT Hydrogen Fund alongside Plug Power and Chart Industries

• In 2019, the firm pledged to halve CO2e emissions by 50% by 2030, and 100% by 2050, from a 2012 baseline. According to their report on corporate responsibility for the year 2019, emissions were 31% lower than the 2012 baseline. The company updated it's baseline to 2019 figures in their 2020 Corporate Sustainability Report to account for divestitures and acquisitions since 2012, and reported a 15% reduction in Scope 1 & 2 greenhouse gas emissions between 2019 and 2020.. The company won an award for 'Excellence in Greenhouse Gas Management' at the Climate Leadership Conference in recognition of their efforts.

• In 2020, Baker Hughes, Microsoft, and C3.ai formed a partnership, BHC3.ai, that makes enterprise AI software products for the oil and gas industries.

• In 2021, Baker Hughes announced a Memorandum of Understanding with Borg CO₂ to develop carbon capture, liquefaction, and transportation technologies on a waste-to-energy plant in Sarpsborg.

I think think these changes would be helpful as currently, the company's activity since becoming an independent company (post-GE-merger) is covered by just one point - the sale of the Sand Springs facility to Artek Surfin Chemicals - which doesn't really cover all the information available. I think including additional points on the companies activities since becoming independent is relevant information for people viewing the Wikipedia page.

As a note, I've tried to maintain the current article style with these edits - so adding rather than altering. However, I think that the history & acquisitions section could be consolidated - perhaps into date ranges as is standard with other pages? I drafted but unfortunately could not find suffcient citations for the older content to preserve it, so left it as-is for now. I'd be interested to hear views on this.

Let me know if you have any thoughts, I'm more than happy to discuss. I'll wait a while before adding a request edit template, to get some feedback from any users on these suggested changes.

 Partly done: Thank you for your request. I've modified the article according to my own reasoning, e.g. I've tried to provide better independent sourcing for most of your additions, plus tweaked language. Some stuff I had to rearrange and add into new sections where not requested, and some didn't make the cut. I agree with your assessment that the article needs copy editing for structure and readability. If suggest you create another request in future, and perhaps make some suggestions along with it.
