There's nothing to mention, Peter Wynne Thomas' biography states on page 80: "Shrewsbury himself never played Rugby football and only played soccer at local Nottingham club level in his youth". 85.210.211.244 (talk) 19:09, 28 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
I presume that the rugby player was a different Arthur Shrewsbury. I did wonder about that when the rugby bit was added to the article, but wasn't sure enough to remove it. It did seem unlikely that someone who was a professional cricketer would be playing rugby union, then I think very much restricted to public school (in the British sense) types. Actually, that's not true, since before the split with rugby league (and even after) there was a pretty large working class rugby playing population in the late 19th century England, especially in places like Lancashire, Yorkshire and the West Country. A lot of them went off to RL later, but not when Shrewsbury was younger (rugby league was only eight years old when he died).
I've added Shrewsbury as an "English rugby union administrator", since that described what he was perfectly. This is one of many rugby-cricket crossover articles, where we have acres of text about the most tedious sport on earth, but nothing about their rugby careers. Given how I'd feel about being forced to watch cricket, I'm not surprised how many cricketers seem to have killed themselves.--MacRusgail (talk) 17:00, 22 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
