King of Spain edit

Should this article mention that the current King of Spain uses the title Archduke of Austria despite being a female-line descendent. Emperor001 (talk) 19:50, 29 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Above grand duke? edit

What is the basis for the claim that an archduke is a higher title than a grand duke? john k (talk) 13:51, 13 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

MILHIST edit

I can't see anything in the article to explain the inclusion of this article in WikiProject Military History, so I have removed the banner. Feel free to contact me on my talk page or the MILHIST community in general at WT:MILHIST if you believe this was not an appropriate course of action. Ducal Hat edit

The text states: 'Archduke (in German Erzherzog) is a title distinct from Grand duke (in German Großherzog) ...' but the caption under the top illustration reads: 'Grand ducal hat, the insignia of the archduke'. If the insignia for grand dukes and archdukes is the same, that should be mentioned in the text. Obviously, this isn't a big issue, but at the moment it's a little confusing as this information (which may or may not be correct) is only given in the caption. If there is overlap between the ranks and titles this should be stated in the text and not crop up almost by chance in a caption. Norvo (talk) 00:38, 14 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Archduke of Lotharingia and Austrasia?? edit

Can somebody provide any sources for the usage and claims to an Archduke title existing before the Austrian one? I can't find anything concerning that matter. RudolftheFree (talk) 22:41, 14 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Honestly, I´ve never ever read or heard something about an Archduke title besides the Austrian one. Also the Britannica only mentions the Austrian one (https://www.britannica.com/topic/archduke). I highly doubt that those further ones mentioned here ever existed, and therefore no sources exist. --93.83.122.90 (talk) 17:13, 25 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

@RudolftheFree: It is applied honorifically to Bruno the Great of Lotharingia in the 10th c. because he was both an archbishop and a duke, but the Merovingian claim looks to be invented (the citation I have given in the article expressly says there are no other sources for it), so I have removed it. —Nizolan (talk · c.) 11:41, 11 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
