Talk:Amami Islands

Question edit

The Super Daijirin Dictionary lists the island 与論島 as yorontō, the Ryukyu Islands article lists the reading as yoronjima. Maybe a Japanese Wikipedian could check which reading is to be preferred. -- Mkill 22:35, 4 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

The Japanese page ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/与論島 gives the pronunciation as yoronjima. It says it can be pronounced as yoronto but yoronjima is the formal name. 与論島 is 与論 Yoron + 島 Island. 島 can be pronounced jima or to. In English you can call it "Yoron Island". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.136.231.67 (talk) 14:28, 24 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
