False Reports of His Death edit

Someone has repeatedly posted erroneous reports of the death of Alvin Toles, the subject of this article. These reports have been UNSOURCED, since they only provide a link ( https://www.geni.com/people/Alvin-Torres/6000000012527218906 ) to a report of the death of a different person, with a different name (Alvin Torres, not Alvin Toles) and a different birth date (November 23, 1949, not March 23, 1963). I say "someone" because these edits are being done by a constantly-changing IP address rather than a Wikipedia username. Note, there have been NO reliable reports of the death of Alvin Toles in the media. As noted in the Wikipedia rules, "Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately from the article and its talk page, especially if potentially libellous. If such material is repeatedly inserted, or if you have other concerns, please report the issue to this noticeboard." Nsxtasy (talk) 03:47, 3 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Protected edit request on 3 September 2016 edit

I hereby request that the edits to this page showing the death of Alvin Toles be removed, and perhaps the page should still be otherwise frozen for the time being. As I just described in more detail in the Notes section of this article, he is NOT dead, and the edit reporting his death is UNSOURCED. (It is accompanied by a link to a report of the death of an entirely different person, with a different name and birthdate.) I have tried several times to undo these erroneous edits, but each time, they are re-applied by someone who uses a constantly-changing IP address instead of a Wikipedia username. I tried leaving notes in the talk page for a username and an IP address making these erroneous edits but they still are getting made.

  • Yeah, somebody using multiple accounts messed with this. I asked for and received page protection, but for the moment it's frozen in the wrong place. Still corresponding with the administrator to fix this. Thanks, Nsxtasy. 2601:188:1:AEA0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 03:59, 3 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Not done: The page's protection level has changed since this request was placed. You should now be able to edit the page yourself. If you still seem to be unable to, please reopen the request with further details. — Andy W. (talk ·ctb) 15:04, 3 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! Having the page semi-protected (requiring confirmed users rather than anonymous IP addresses) seems like the most appropriate solution, given the situation. This has been a learning experience for me! I'm not a heavy Wikipedia editor, and wasn't aware these things happen. But it seems like there are ways to deal with them properly, as I have learned. Thanks again.Nsxtasy (talk) 17:23, 3 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
