It seems that a single contributor added a large amount of information about the related breed the St. Bernard (dog). The information would be more appropriate at that article and all or most of it was already present in that article. I have reverted to the version preceding the contributor's additions. If the contributor wishes to suggest that Wikipedia should not distinguish between the extinct Alpine Mastiff and the St. Bernard, its descendant altered by crosses with other breeds, that suggestion may be brought up on this talk page or at Talk:St. Bernard (dog). Bringing Back the Breed? edit

Is there a reference to back up this statement, that currently ends the article?: "Beginning in the 1970s, there have been some efforts to breed back the Alpine Mastiff, mainly by using breeds such as the Saint Bernard, Great Dane, Great Pyrenees and Bernese Mountain Dog."
