Notability

Let me begin by saying that other than having a complete set of his books, and being rather envious of his popularity, I am in no way connected to Bob Ong. That said, I submit that this book is notable under criterion #5, which states:

* The book's author is so historically significant that any of his or her written works may be considered notable. This does not simply mean that the book's author is him/herself notable by Wikipedia's standards, rather that the book's author is of exceptional significance and the author's life and body of work would be a common study subject in literature classes.

On the other hand, the academic acknowledgement of Ong's body of work has not arrived yet - not in a country where the literary community is so small and so enamoured with formal movements.

But I submit that the unusual popular acknowledgment accorded to Bob Ong books is a mark of his significance. In a country where the reading of books is not considered "pleasurable", Bob Ong's books are genuinely phenomenal, matching on a national scale the success of popular books like, say, "Twilight" on the world stage. (I think Bob Ong books are much better, but that's subjective.) In fact, if he weren't the author of these books, I suppose the measure of their notability would be that they are big enough phenomena to be worthy of being mentioned in a Bob Ong book! -- Alternativity (talk) 17:13, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
