Talk:Aircraft in fiction

Consensus Inclusion Criteria for Text in This Article

  • Real world aircraft (not fictional or made-up aircraft) that have significant roles in books, films, video games and as toys, provided reliable refs are supplied.
  • For fictional characters who assume the form of an aircraft - inclusion only as a one sentence summary and only for primary aircraft, not one-time configurations.
  • All media types included under article subheadings by aircraft type with at least one link to the article about the aircraft type itself.
  • The aircraft must have a significant role in the work and not simply being seen. Appearances in games are considered non-notable except for notable games dedicated to the specific aircraft.
  • Third party references are needed to show the notability of the appearance. Primary references, such as the book, game or movie itself, are not sufficient for inclusion.
  • Aircraft type articles that have entries here should have Notable appearances in media sections that simply refer to this article, in a manner like Sikorsky MH-53#Notable_appearances_in_media.

Should there be a system for what gets a picture and what does not? edit

Some of the aircraft do not have pictures, while others have 1 or 2. Should there be a system for adding pictures? CloneCommanderFordo (talk) 14:22, 25 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Not specifically and this article should not have numerous images that are not adjacent to relevant text. Generally there should be only 1 image if the aircraft has 1 paragraph because adding more images would push images into the other sections, away from relevant text. -Fnlayson (talk) 14:34, 25 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
I added ten more, but only to paragraphs long enough to contain them. I didn't finish. It's an endless task going through Wikimedia Commons to find a good image. I tried to add good images that aren't already included in the main article on each aircraft. ~Anachronist (talk) 21:57, 25 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

A-4 Skyhawk edit

Is the section for the A-4 missing? The A-4 page redirects here, but there is no info on the plane. It had fairly major role in TopGun. 2001:56A:DFF5:927E:19C0:DF14:5319:8E34 (talk) 19:44, 29 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Feel free to add it if you can find a reliable source discussing the aircraft's role in the film. We do need a source that talks about it, not simply an appearance in a film. The movie Top Gun isn't mentioned at all in the article about the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk, and the article Top Gun mentions it without citing a source. ~Anachronist (talk) 19:52, 29 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

The PBY in Steelyard Blues edit

This aircraft is surely a prominent enough character in this film to be worth mention. 99.124.159.40 (talk) 06:41, 25 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

B2 Spirit edit

The B2 Spirit features in the 1996 John Woo film Broken Arrow. Whilst flying an exercise mission with two live warheads, the pilot intends to steal the weapons and crash the aircraft blaming the other pilot for the loss. Broken Arrow (1996 film) - Wikipedia Nigelpwsmith (talk) 13:22, 30 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

No, Broken Arrow has a fictional aircraft the B3 bomber. Loosely based but it's not the B2. Canterbury Tail talk 14:31, 30 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Mil Mi-24 edit

The Mil Mi-24 made his first two movie appearances in Rambo:First Blood Part II (1985) and Rambo III (1988). They are both piloted by the main antagonist of each movie, Lieutenant Colonel Sergei T. Podovsky in Rambo II and Soviet Colonel Alexei Zaysen in Rambo III. In both movies, the Mil Mi-24 has a major part in the decisive battles between John Rambo and both colonels in the end of the movies 81.207.73.38 (talk) 16:22, 23 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

The Rambo films and Red Dawn used Aérospatiale SA 330 Pumas modified to look like the Mi-24 in 1980s. Refer to the Aérospatiale Puma section in the main article. -Fnlayson (talk) 05:41, 24 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

747 Trijet appearances edit

The video game Splatoon 3 has a stage called "Marlin Airport", with an unnamed aircraft that looks very much like the proposed 747 Trijet. Is this notable enough to include? 85.234.213.181 (talk) 12:40, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Is there a reliable source identifying it as that and does it do more than just appear? Niteshift36 (talk) 14:43, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Niteshift36 It's prominent in the background but no more 85.234.213.181 (talk) 20:46, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I don't see anything that looks like a 747 Trijet in Splatoon. I see something that looks like a stubby 747, with 3 engines at the back, but that's not what the 747 Trijet design looked like as it had regular 2 engines under the wing, and one at the back. And remember, the 747 Trijet wasn't a real plane, it was never made and therefore doesn't belong in this list anyway as it's not real. Canterbury Tail talk 20:52, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Oh don't apologize, you brought something here in a good way and with all the best of intentions. You've done nothing wrong and I appreciate your efforts and hope you stay around and edit. Canterbury Tail talk 23:30, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Large chunk missing? edit

Hello, just found this article and it feels like some lines are missing? The list skips from E to M without a heading for the letter M. I had a look through the edit history and couldn't find any particularly large changes that would've caused this, so I don't think it's vandalism, just looks like someone (perhaps me?) needs to fill the rest out. I'll add the M heading now. Markvdean (talk) 13:15, 1 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

It was broken in this edit. The editor removed the end of a comment tag to make the Typhoon appear, but didn't remove the beginning tag of the comment. This caused a large percentage of the article to be taken as a hidden comment instead of rendering it. Canterbury Tail talk 13:48, 1 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
