Hello. According to the Jewish Encyclopedia AARON HA-LEVI OF BARCELONA and AARON BEN JOSEPH HA-LEVI are two different people. So which one is this? My guess is, that it is the latter, AARON BEN JOSEPH HA-LEVI (HaRAH, initials of his name Ha-Rav Aharon ha-Levi; c. 1235–1300), according to the Encyclopaedia Judaica. Please correct, if necessary, thanks, ajnem (talk) 12:45, 16 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Correct.
The other article, AARON HA-LEVI OF BARCELONA, is about the author of the Sefer ha-Chinuch, which was not Aharon HaLevi, though according to some opinion it may have been Aaron's brother Pinchas.
I have added a template to suggest that the duplicate article Aaron ben Joseph ha-Levi be merged to here; and that the content of Aaron ha-Levi of Barcelona be merged into Sefer ha-Chinuch. Jheald (talk) 23:53, 3 February 2013 (UTC)::Reply
To editors Jheald and Ajnem:: Thanks for opening this good discussion, because it highlights the confusion caused by the state of the three Wikipedia articles:
  1. Sefer ha-Chinuch,
  2. Aaron ben Joseph ha-Levi, and
  3. Aaron ha-Levi of Barcelona.
However, I disagree with your conclusion, Jheald, because I believe such merging would encourage confusion between the two people with similar names, rather than make the distinction easier to see. This would especially hold true with someone unfamiliar with the general topic or a casual reader, one who skims to get a general sense of an article: "The names look similar... Oh, there's only one biographical article with anything close to that name! Must be the same guy.."
I think the solution is to keep the articles separate, improve the structure of 2 & 3 (in part through section headers), use Template:Distinguish at the top of 2 & 3, and use Template:Main at the top of the sections in 1 & 3 that discuss each other. Perhaps there's enough information in the public domain articles alone to expand the biographies of 2 & 3 a bit as well, or someone could find more modern commentary to add to any of the three articles.
It may be that all I can do is point this out to some of the people who worked on this before, due to my real-life limitations often getting in the way of finishing things myself, but I'll see how far I can take this. As for the Template:Merge-related hatboxes, I'll leave them up for a little while to see if someone disagrees with my suggestions or improves upon them.

Aaron ben Joseph ha-Levi should be merged with Aharon HaLevi, they are the same person. Nashelskeryid (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 14:49, 13 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
