Thanks, TSventon, looks like a good start. Over the weekend, I’ll see if I can add anything. One thought, on the money front, some halls were frugal and others nothing of the kind. No doubt that changed from time to time, as principals came and went. Another, you might like to work in somewhere a link to Hall house, a page I started but which has moved on since then. I guess all the hospitia were hall houses, which is where the name of hall came from. Moonraker (talk) 01:26, 11 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Moonraker, I have copied your suggestions here, hope that is OK. On money, St Alban Hall was expensive when Robinson attended, so my wording could be improved. The source says "During the 1850s and 1860s [the halls] had enjoyed something of a resurgence by reducing the costs of residence at a time when the colleges as a whole had done little to address this long - standing problem ."^[1] Hall house could be another see also: Brockliss says that hall buildings were frequently L-shaped and included a hall, shops facing the street as well as further rooms, which sounds a bit more complex than a hall house as described in the article.^[2] Encyclopaedia of Oxford p. 5 similarly says academic halls were mostly medieval town houses including a hall and the name hall spread to any substantial house.

My own ideas on what could be added include pictures and some examples of what happened in individual halls in different centuries. TSventon (talk) 01:41, 12 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Alright Sventon, I've had a go at the formation of the early halls. It's a bit wordy in places and there will most likely be some typos but see what you think.Pug of the day (talk) 14:37, 16 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Pug of the day, thank you, I have moved your addition to the beginning of the history section and done some copy editing. The first sentence probably heeds to say "According to Emden" rather than "Historians believe" as his sources are now around a hundred years old. TSventon (talk) 08:48, 17 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
